This job contributes to Starbucks success by developing tactical and strategic supply plans and establishing inventory levels for assigned production materials to achieve customer service, supply chain and financial objectives for manufacturing plants and distribution centers. Ensures that the right product is in the right place at the right time in the right quantities to meet production requirements based on demand. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

As a materials planner you will:

  • Participates in new product introduction, sets up new material items and supports in plant testing and trials.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains bills of material and item attributes in various operating systems such as Oracle and Oasis
  • Develops short- and long-term supply plans to balance the demand forecast with cost, efficiency, and capacity constraints. Works with Procurement as necessary to ensure purchases flow effectively. Optimizes the flow of product through the supply chain and provides feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Determines what and how much material to buy to support production per the forecast and demand plan. Creates standard orders and/or blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) releases from Oracle.
  • Tracks material shipments, monitors when material received, and expedites with supplier when needs are urgent.
  • Monitors material inventory cycle counts and reconciliation to assure inventory levels are accurate.
  • Conducts ongoing development of inventory strategies to determine cost-effective use of inventory investment while maximizing inventory turns and meeting service level targets. Identifies and recommends opportunities to reduce costs and prepare for future growth. Identifies capacity gaps. Recommends changes to sourcing.
  • Establishes and maintains supportive relationships with customers, suppliers, and team partners to ensure effective communication of strategic and tactical issues. Manages defective material reporting and resolution communication between QA, Accounting, and supplier.
  • Demonstrates and understands safety as a core value and follows the key essentials to safety as set forth by our safety resolution; reinforces and coaches others to do the same.
  • Understands and follows established safety guidelines, consistently complies with all safety procedures (e.g. PPE, Lock Out Tag Out).
  • Supports food safety, legality, and quality programs.
  • Maintains product quality through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Preventative Controls, product specifications and quality procedures. Monitors and documents quality measures using analytical tools.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • High School diploma/GED, four (4) or more years of US military service or four (4) or more years of work or US
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to work in accordance with safety, quality and sanitation standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work variable shifts to support business needs.
  • Ability to understand written policies and guidelines, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of supply planning or inventory management processes
  • Effective use of planning system to develop tactical or strategic solutions.
  • Experience in a role creating reports with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system or inventory module (1 year)
  • Experience in a role that builds, modifies, or manages production schedules or supply plans (1 year)
  • Progressive experience in manufacturing, or scheduling and/or planner roles (3 years)
  • Experience in supply chain, planning, procurement, or logistics (3 years)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with food safety regulatory requirements and global standards including Preventive Controls for Human Food (FDA Code of Federal Regulations) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Experience with the GFSI certification schemes (i.e. BRC and/or or SQF).
