The Material Handler assists in the daily operation of the department with primary emphasis on distribution, prepping, and staging of material and control of inventory.
POSITION SUMMARY:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with safe work practices to ensure own safety as well as co-workers'
- Follow procedures for assigning inventory locations to parts, as well as delivering job orders.
- Operate fork trucks in a safe and efficient manner to move material.
- Complete inspections prior to routing goods to individual departments or storage in proper locations.
- Complete necessary procedures to pick jobs and deliver parts to specified departments.
- Notify specific individuals of parts shortages; late work orders or shipments; incorrect bills of material; scheduling, purchasing, or sales errors; missing prints; missing parts; etc.
- Complete all necessary paperwork on a daily basis including necessary computer transactions using specific forms and procedures dealing with inventory movement through department.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and know how to check against them.
- Cycle count and troubleshoot errors, and kit/move product along production area.
- Manual lifting and movement of boxes, totes, and other containers weighing up to 33 lbs.
- Perform all 5S duties and maintain acceptable 5S standards.
- Understand & execute, if necessary, inventory paperwork & computer transactions.
- Mobility to move within department/plant as assigned.
- Perform all other duties, as required, to meet customer and company quality and productivity needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High School diploma or GED required
- Proven ability to operate lifts safely
- Basic computer skills, specifically with performing inventory transactions, required
- Forklift certified or ability to successfully complete SBD approved forklift certification program
- Solid math and counting skills with emphasis on consistency and accuracy
- RDT (Radio Data Transmitter) experience preferred
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Ability to read and understand work order routings and instructions.
- Ability to assist production with assembly and machine completions.
