POSITION SUMMARY (Objective/Purpose of Position):
The Materials Developer is a member of the product development team responsible for the development process and execution of materials development in textiles for apparel, footwear and other textile based finished products. The Materials Developer will lead the development process working with designers, developers, merchants, and vendors in identifying new materials and market trends to develop textiles the development specifications to production.

The Materials Developer will lead the development process working with designers, developers, merchants, and vendors in identifying new materials and market trends to develop textiles the development specifications to production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform market research to fully understand the textile applications for assigned product category, competing brand benchmarks, materials specifications, and required functional performance for assigned material/project development;
- Present new materials technologies; and introduce potential solutions for improved product performance;
- Work with product development team identify/validate potential new materials opportunities;
- Lead the materials development timeline from seasonal strategy, concept reviews, planning, sample reviews, approvals, to production release. Coordinate the transfer of new materials launch planning with quality and production teams;
- Develop and document project scope and product specifications with product teams;
- Identify supply chain partners and mills to develop samples and quotations.
- Complete cost analysis to understand baseline target cost relative to product margin requirements
- Review specification details, development testing data, and corrections required. Address potential roadblocks in meeting performance and project timeline
- Perform materials review of samples, address challenges regarding specifications, timelines, or pricing. Present sample to development team for feedback - communicate any revisions to factory;
- Update and confirm final specifications, upload spec sheet, costing, supplier/mill assignment, and development reviews into PLM system;
- Solicit feedback from field testers with final samples for materials evaluation;
- Work with product developers and merchants to educate/share materials technology story for product content to be created for collateral materials to support product in packaging, infographics, and digital media platforms.
- Coordinate with quality teams and vendors to ensure that all materials testing procedures have been executed;
- Ensure accuracy and submission of materials database in PLM
- OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Textiles, Materials, or Product Development
Experience:
- 5-7 years in materials or product development role
- Working industry knowledge in textiles
- Experience working with international supply base
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Ability to use MS Office suite; Proficient in use of MS Excel, and Adobe Illustrator
- Attention to detail: visually and functionally

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Domestic and International. Estimated travel less than 30 days per year. Travel may vary based on development projects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular computer work, and sitting
- Ability to use hand tools to di-sect samples and use measuring gauges
- Occasional walking, standing, and lifting up to 50lbs
