General Summary

Materials Analysis Engineer responsible for analysis of materials used in the production and handling of integrated circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation, calibration, maintenance, and data interpretation from analytical instruments such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, GC/MS, TMA, DMA, etc. Preform root-cause analysis for difficult materials.
  • General knowledge of common materials and laboratory techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, and EDS
  • Directing and/or preforming testing as required to support the investigation of polymer related projects
  • Work with the FA lab and manufacturing team to select and validate materials
  • Provide plastic processing expertise in the development of new products, materials, new technologies, production equipment, and processes concerning manufacturing of high-preforming thermoplastics
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers and raw material providers to keep equipment running smoothly and projects on schedule
  • Preform installations of FA equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper work order of the tool
  • Indentify and address potential areas for improvement including tools, cycle time, utilization, and cost
  • Write and maintain FA procedures at it relates to the FA lab
  • Work cross functionally with Product, Assembly, and Test Engineers to support Material Analysis efforts to ensure that customer and supplier projects are executed on time with high quality
  • Prioritize analysis jobs if needed
    • Works cross functionally with Product, Assembly and Test Engineers to support Material Analysis efforts to ensure that customer and supplier projects are executed on time with high quality.
    • Assume the role as a subject matter expert for Polymers at Rochester Electronics
    • Mentor and guide junior analysts on lab tools and techniques.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Polymer related field such as Materials Science, Chemistry with focus on polymers or polymer engineering
  • Experience
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in related field preferred, but not required.

Proven skills

    • Experience in polymeric Materials Analysis and failure analysis is required as is a working understanding of analytical tests such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, GC/MS, TMA, DMA, etc.
    • Fundamental knowledge of polymers and polymer chemistry
    • Hands-on approach to problem solving utilizing statistical data analysis and DOEs with a good understanding of latest advances in polymer processing.
    • Experience contributing to team technical discussions and presenting results in front of other technical audiences, such as customers.
    • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
    • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills within a group of peers and the broader organization, including remote team members.
    • Must be very organized and detail oriented.
    • Must be self-directed and able to work with very little assistance from others.
    • Must be able to able to handle several active projects at one time (multitask).
