Material Handler

Job Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for performing the day-to-today activities of the warehouse including shipping, receiving, sanitation, maintenance, safety, inventory control and pulling parts for production. They must be familiar with general warehouse procedures and processes. They will load and unload material within the warehouse using forklifts, hand trucks or other material handling equipment. They will communicate safety rules to incoming commercial drivers. They will be responsible for ensuring maintenance of computer system records pertaining to inventory, including stock locations, transactions for all work order pulls, inventory adjustments and cycle count transactions.

Essential Functions

• Safely operate 5K, 15K and 30K forklifts
• Performs routine maintenance checks on forklifts
• Loads and unloads finished goods and in-process materials from semi-trailers and other designated storage areas
• Conveys materials and items from receiving and production to storage or other designated areas
• Checks material movement transactions for accuracy of part numbers, quantities and locations
• Marks materials with identifying information
• Maintains orderly shelves and bins in stockroom
• Helps maintain accurate inventory levels
• Enters and maintains inventory records in computer by recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed
• Coordinates with production for timely delivery of required components for work orders
• Responsible for un-decking piggy back chassis
• Immediately stores wasted axle oil from new chassis
• Check truck list report against VIN to determine ownership of chassis
• Inspect new chassis for damage
• Receive Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMA’s) and send copy to the person who generated it
• Run report to check packing slips receipts for errors
• File daily Packing Slips Receipts
• Cleans warehouse area
• Ability to comply with company safety policy and safe driving practices
• Continually demonstrates a productive and non-disruptive work ethic.
• Assists in completion of Corrective actions/Preventive actions.
• Supports Purchasing Department in resolving Vendor issues – quantity, missing paperwork, damaged parts.
• Manages and replaces defective parts; identifies possible solutions.
• Continually strives to improve in all aspects of job requirements
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment; cares for shop tools, equipment, and vehicles
• Follows Company policy regarding regular attendance and timeliness.
• Other duties as assigned

Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum 3 years manufacturing warehouse experience
• Minimum 5 years Material Handler experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Epicor Vantage ERP System a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills required.
• Able to inspire team confidence and respect
• Must have a desire for achieving excellence in internal/external customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.

Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
