Job Summary:

The CSMC organization is looking to add a Metallurgical testing analyst to the team. This position is for an engineer to perform metallographic evaluations of major rotating hardware for various manufacturing special processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for metallurgical sample preparation, evaluation, disposition, and quality documentation of materials and processes. Interpretation of blueprints, specifications, procedures, and laboratory manuals to assess what testing is required and conformance to requirements is a critical aspect of this position.

This is a Weekend Shift position: Friday - Sunday 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform metallographic evaluation and documentation of various special manufacturing processes, primarily heat treating and plasma spray coatings.
  • Regular interaction with Production Operations personnel as well as other Engineering disciplines to help respond to metallurgical issues and develop effective root cause and corrective action for manufacturing-related issues.
  • Effective team player and contributor utilizing the CORE tools and continuous improvement by maintaining EH&S and operating requirements in order to ensure a safe and productive working environment.
  • Provide clear, concise, and accurate lab reports. Maintain records and retain prepared samples according to procedure. Monitor testing frequency of all processes.
  • Develop evaluation sheet(s) for all tested parts.
  • Investigation of various parts and process related problems.
  • Position may require travel for training purposes and occasional off-shift coverage needs based on business requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in the area of metallurgical testing, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Quality and/or manufacturing, material background.
  • Familiarity with microscope evaluation techniques including brightfield, darkfield, and polarized light microscopy.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing operations.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Knowledge and experience with root cause investigations, corrective actions and problem solving.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

The salary range for this role is 36,000 USD - 72,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
