QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's in Emergency Medical Services or related field from an accredited institution;
  • State of Florida Paramedic certification;
  • Possess AHA CPR, ACLS & PALS certifications at the provider level;
  • Current knowledge, technical skills and experience in the field of pre-hospital emergency care;
  • NAEMT & American Heart Association instructor preferred;
  • Thorough knowledge of current national curriculum, national accreditation, national registration and requirements for state certification of licensure for EMT and Paramedic;
  • Minimum of four (4) years of teaching at the postsecondary level;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time work experiences in emergency medical services/prehospital care;
  • Current knowledge of, and skills in, methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students;
  • Effective verbal and written communication;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team;
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office software and internet-based instructional platforms.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching including presenting lecture materials, using multiple teaching methodologies, demonstrating psychomotor skills and instructional innovation.
  • Effectively using instructional technology to supplement instructions.
  • Coordinating, directing, and ensuring equitable clinical educational experiences and integrating academic and clinical experiences in the 4-county service district of IRSC;
  • Demonstrating safe patient management, professional behavior and sound judgment;
  • Evaluating students in the classroom, lab and clinical settings including evaluation of affective skills;
  • Demonstrating knowledge regarding curriculum design, program planning, and accreditation;
  • Continuous updating of knowledge and technical expertise in the field of emergency medicine as well as proficiency in instruction;
  • Participating in continuous program improvement through the college's planning and assessment process;
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration projects/initiatives;
  • Serving the community;
  • Serving effectively on college committees.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Instructing courses including lecture, laboratory, and clinical rotations to meet the overall course objectives and program goals of the EMT and Paramedic curricula;
  • This may include instructing at any of the five IRSC campuses;
  • Overseeing the preparation, assignment, and supervision of students while on clinical rotations to include: hospital, mental health, EMS providers, and health department;
  • Serving as a liaison between Indian River State College and the affiliating clinical sites;
  • Evaluating student progress using multiple methodologies and maintaining accurate student records;
  • Supporting student success through counseling, advising, and assisting individual students;
  • Participating in Department, Division, and general faculty meetings, applicable College committee activities, and other forms of College service;
  • Participating in recruitment, retention, completion, and placement activities;
  • Serving on the EMS Advisory Committee;
  • Participating actively in professional activities such as, but not limited to, curriculum planning, accreditation process, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision, grant writing, budget input, and other professional planning activities as needed;
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies on all five campuses for EMT and Paramedic programs;
  • Participating in recruitment, orientation, and mentoring of adjunct faculty;
  • Coordinating offerings for BLS, ACLS, PALS and other specialty certifications as needed;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires frequent lifting of equipment - may include above the head; ability to lift and carry 100 lbs; frequent standing for long periods of time; physical abilities to carry out duties as an EMS professional including: having a concept of time and being able to record seconds, minutes, and hours from a watch or clock; reading, writing, conversing, and comprehending in fluent English; listening to an individual speak through a radio and be able to respond in an audible and intelligible manner; listening through a stethoscope for breath sounds and blood pressure readings; walking and working in small spaces, various weather conditions, and various physical environments; having the tactile and visual ability sufficient for physical assessment; manipulating and handling equipment such as a stretcher from floor to a height of 80 inches. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
