Job description

MAJOR FUNCTION: Skilled work at masters level involving both rough and finished electrical work.
KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS NEEDED IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Knowledge:
  • Technical schooling and experience necessary to obtain and maintain a Master Electrician license.
Abilities:
  • The ability to apply the above knowledge efficiently in a neat and workmanlike manner making safety and system integrity first, and cost effectiveness second.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
  • Ability to work with low and high voltage lines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Assume responsibility of the condition of all electrical systems within the jurisdiction of this position.
  • Correct all existing situations deemed unsafe and bring up to current applicable code[MB1] .
  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical outlets, lights, wiring systems, computers, electrical equipment, etc.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot electrical problems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • May operate a bucket truck or similar equipment in performance duties.
  • Perform all work necessary to completion of projects through all inspection stages, meeting all requirements of the building department, National Electric Code and Fire Marshall's office to protect St. Lucie County from liability arising from incorrect conditions.
  • To be responsible for all electrical work done by subordinates within this department.
  • Oversee work performance of electrical subcontractors.
  • County employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
  • Performs related work as requested or assigned.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to work over head off of ladders and platforms. Good vision and hearing with or without correction. Ability to lift over 50 pounds. Hand and finger dexterity required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS: Work may take place in indoor and outdoor setting at various County buildings and facilities requiring exposure to weather conditions, noise, dirt, dust, pollutants, and insects.
WORK HAZARDS: Hands on technical work up to 500-volt lines.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT USED OR NEEDED: Safety equipment supplied by County including all hand tools and meters as position requires. [MB1]Removed: Pull construction permits on behalf of St. Lucie CountyEDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
EXPERIENCE: Ten years minimum in electrical-related field of work.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION: Master electrician license or qualified to take examination and successfully obtain within 6-month probationary period. Florida Electrical Contractor license preferred. Valid Florida driver license and any other licenses applicable to enhance this position.Pay Grade U21

Driving Position - Operating County vehicles and/or equipment is a primary function of this position.
This is a union position.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING: This position requires a physical, drug testing, driver's license verification and level 1 background screening.
