This role is a dynamic blend of educator, mentor, and program leader, delivering group ESOL instruction to high intermediate students within a specialized Nurse Aide/home health aide training program. Working in tandem with a Nurse Aide Instructor, your focus is on student-centered teaching in a context that caters to student needs while responding to credentialing requirements and employer feedback. Your involvement extends beyond the classroom, offering educational and career coaching, along with case management services to empower students towards achieving their goals.
Moreover, your impact goes beyond teaching as you spearhead program recruitment, enrollment, and job placement efforts. Your collaborative approach ensures the program meets Department of Elementary & Secondary Education targets, striving for full enrollment and successful employment outcomes. Your leadership is instrumental in guiding a team towards these shared objectives, ensuring the program's success while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  1. Provides high quality ESOL instruction contextualized to the healthcare sector to support Student Success with Nurse Aide content and career readiness. The program seeks to place students into entry-level caregiving positions that are a first step on a healthcare career pathway.
  2. Develops curriculum that maximizes Student Success in class, on state certification exams, and as healthcare employees.
  3. Aligns instruction with MA English Language Proficiency Standards.
  4. Works closely with Nurse Aide instructor, Assistant Vice President for ABE & Workforce Development, and Director of ESOL to provide comprehensive instruction and support.
  5. Develops and maintains student assessment schedules in order to meet program goals and fulfill funding requirements.
  6. Participates in program planning, building cohort schedules, and professional development.
  7. Approaches students through an asset-focused lens, noticing the strengths they bring to the program and building on those strengths. Develops strong relationships, trust, and proactive communication with all students on case-load.
  8. Recruits and screens applicants to MassSTEP program, coordinating and documenting ESOL assessments, CORI/SORI background checks, and oral and written interviews to determine eligibility based on skill level, motivation and readiness.
  9. Works with community partners (e.g. ESOL programs, One-Stop Career Centers, and community partners), to identify prospective candidates.
  10. Supports students in achieving strong engagement in class, attendance, and persistence over time through regular follow-up, needs assessment and connection to resources, and communication of program expectations.
  11. Provides one-on-one career assessment, development, planning, and career advising services to a diverse population. Works with participants to develop a career plan with pathways to future advancement.
  12. Conducts workshops and group advising on career exploration, goal setting, job search, and other career-related topics.
  13. Coordinates guest speakers and special events including college pathways (eg TCC, Foundations of Health, Academic ESL, Accelerated Career English), employer engagement (eg mock interviews, employer-based advancement and training opportunities etc.)
  14. Maintains individual education and career files. Tracks attendance, completion, employment, and other data in accordance with funder requirements and to support program continuous improvement.
  15. Upon completion of programs, places students in jobs, documents placement outcomes, collects follow-up data as required by the funder or the College. Ensures that programs meet the outcomes targeted in the proposal.
  16. Makes referrals to appropriate agencies (basic needs, educational, employment, etc.)
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:
  • Master's degree and at least one year experience in Adult Basic Education, ESOL and/or Workforce Development or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication and technology skills;
  • Commitment to professional and program development;
  • Commitment to learner-centered teaching;
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Ability to deliver services and instruction in online, hybrid, and in-person formats.
PREFERRED:
  • TESOL Certification; trained on TABE-E writing and/or BEST+ Speaking/Listening Assessments;
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Arabic, Polish, Russian, or other language spoken by our students;
  • Familiarity with DESE-funded ABE system (including MA ELPs and/or College & Career Readiness Standards);
  • Ability to integrate math (operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportion) into ESOL instruction in relation to career goals;
  • Prior experience with career-focused ESOL instruction, particularly in healthcare.
  • Demonstrated outcomes in program recruitment and/or job placement. Experience with DESE LACES database.

Full-time, MCCC Unit Professional position
Salary Range: Grade 4; Minimum $53,590 - $61,718 /year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits package.
Hours: 37.5 hrs./52 weeks; May include occasional evening commitments (eg outreach events)
Funding Source: DESE Grant (Funding expected through June 30, 2028, contingent upon annual renewal.)
