This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Plan, design, and execute experiments using mass spectrometry (both LC-MS and GC-MS qualitative) to further the course of discovery and development projects
  • Ensure appropriate use of mass spectrometry to define control strategies for New Chemical Entities (NCEs)
  • Explore and implement innovative research areas and/or apply innovative solutions to project problems
  • Demonstrate a high level of problem-solving capability and ability to identify and troubleshoot technical or resource issues
  • Appropriate knowledge of regulatory requirements as applied to the drug development process
  • Contribute to and effectively work within matrix teams comprised of colleagues both within and across departments
  • Operational knowledge of laboratory/plant equipment
  • Contribute to regulatory dossiers and author/review reports
  • Comply with the requirements of quality, safety, and GSK policies and procedures and ensure that GSK intellectual property is protected
  • Self-motivated flexible approach with good organizational skills and ability to communicate in a scientific manner
  • Working knowledge of GxP requirements, SOPs, and policies

Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD in analytical chemistry (mass spectrometry related discipline)
  • MS in chemistry or related science/chemistry field and 5+ years industry experience
  • Experience in structural identification of small molecules using mass spectrometry

Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Experience working in organic chemistry
  • Advanced knowledge of high-resolution MS instrumentation and ionization modalities (e.g. QTOF, Orbitrap, MALDI, APCI, ESI, etc.)
  • Proven track record of innovation in the field of mass spectrometry supported by publications and presentations at international conferences
  • Proven track record of development of novel LC-MS and/or GC-MS methodology
  • Experience identifying metabolites/impurities/degradants using mass spectrometric techniques to provide key information for projects at all stages of pharmaceutical development (from early phase development to marketed product support)
  • Experience in analysis of biomolecules by mass spectrometry
  • Experience in developing quantitative methods using mass spectrometric techniques
  • Experience in troubleshooting MS instruments/methods
  • Experience in regulated GxP laboratory
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of spectroscopic techniques other than mass spectrometry (e.g. NMR, FTIR, Raman, XRPD, etc.)
