OVERVIEW
The Math and Reading Skills (M.A.R.S.) Academy is a Saturday School Program for targeted tutoring for students in grades 3-12. It is a dedicated initiative designed to provide specialized support in math and reading. The M.A.R.S. Academy aims to launch students toward academic excellence in math and reading by bolstering students' confidence, enhancing their comprehension, and improving their overall performance in math and reading. By offering specialized tutoring on Saturdays, we are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed academically.
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Site Facilitator, the MARS Academy Instructor provides supplemental instruction to identified students in small groups.

Performance evaluation will be conducted using final student performance data (i.e. SOL performance and growth data)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Instruct students according to appropriate curriculum that includes assessment and review processes
- Plan, develop, and implement lesson plans in keeping with school district and state education requirements
- Work in collaboration with staff and other teachers.
- Comply with and enforce school rules and school board policies and procedures.
- Attend each identified Saturday session in its entirety
- Maintain student data and progress documentation
- Attend training and data sessions
- Perform other school duties and assignments as appointed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
- Must have extensive successful experience in instruction, as evidenced by student performance data on standardized assessments
