JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, responsible for diagnosing psychosocial aspects of mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage and family systems, applying psychotherapeutic and family systems theories and techniques in the delivery of services to families, couples and individuals. Collaborates in the delivery of care with other professionals, making referrals to other professionals when appropriate. Work may involve limited supervision of interns.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with two years of marriage and family therapy experience required.
Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the North Carolina Marriage and Family Licensure Board.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Interviews patients and members of the family within the context of marriage and family systems to diagnose psychosocial aspects of mental and emotional disorders.
- Applies psychotherapeutic and family systems theories and techniques in the delivery of services to families, couples, and individuals for the purpose of treating the diagnosed mental and emotional disorders.
- Confers with supervisor regarding the needs and problems of patients and their families and to assess when to make appropriate referrals to other professionals.
- Collaborates with other professionals involved in the care of the patients and their families.
- Provides guidance and direction to interns and other marriage and Family Therapists.
- Maintains case records and prepares reports relative to history and treatment of individuals and their families.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
