Scope of Position
EDF Renewables North America is a market-leading independent power producer and service provider with over 35 years of experience. We deliver grid-scale power: wind (onshore and offshore), solar photovoltaic, and storage projects; distribution-scale power: solar and storage; asset optimization: technical, operational, and commercial expertise to maximize the performance of generating projects, and onsite solutions, through the Company's PowerFlex affiliate, offering a full suite of onsite energy solutions for commercial and industrial customers: solar, storage, EV charging, energy management systems, and microgrids.
The Market Optimization Manager will be responsible for managing short term power for EDFR's portfolio management and trading initiatives, including physical and financial day-ahead and real-time positions across several North American wholesale electricity markets. Assist in the development and execution of short-term (0 -3 years) power hedging strategies and manage the portfolio in the context of market fundamentals, supply dynamics, regional events, and risk exposure.
Responsibilities
Day Ahead Trading
  • Optimize the performance of day-ahead and virtual trading strategies for EDFR's North American renewable asset portfolio. Responsible for managing short term physical and financial wholesale power positions and related tasks (market knowledge, curve analysis, etc.). Short term includes Bal-day, Next-day, weekly, and prompt markets. Evening and weekend work may be required as needs dictate.
  • Efficiently collect, organize, and manipulate large amounts of data and accurately present analytical results using Excel, R, Python, Tableau, etc.
  • Submit daily day-ahead offers and advise Qualified Scheduling Entities on any strategy changes.
  • Support daily data aggregation efforts to implement day-ahead trading strategies across the asset fleet.
  • Capture market opportunities based on real-time positions and analysis of market conditions.
  • Participate in ISO training pertaining to any rule change associated with wholesale market operations.
  • Implement strategies for preserving project profit margins during plant maintenance and other outages.

Market Optimization
  • Validate key assumptions with market data, track project performance, and research and quantify deviations between forecast and actual.
  • Assist with the validation of forward pricing, basis estimates, and volatility curves.
  • Support the Energy Market Risk Management team with market-based asset valuation studies, regional power market assessments, price, and volatility analyses.
  • Conduct analyses and execute forward trade strategies to optimize EDFR's portfolio energy exposure.
  • Conduct research and provide market fundamentals support for FTR activities.
  • Participate in Risk Oversight Committee ("ROC") meetings and investor communication meetings and present updates regarding executed strategies. Responsible for appropriate data management, validation, and testing. Gather the necessary data to develop and create reports for position reporting. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, Energy Market Risk Management.

Qualifications
Education/Experience -
  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, statistics, computer science, or related fields, Master's degree in data science, financial engineering, or related fields preferred.
  • 5+ years energy trading, scheduling, or front office/desk analyst experience
  • Proven record of accomplishment in power trading including experience with day ahead optimization and physical financial power trading for wind and solar generation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products. Experience with Python, R, and SQL preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of wholesale electricity and natural gas markets.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities -
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a fully integrated team (risk management, asset optimization, developers, etc.).
  • Ability to convey detailed and complex information accurately and concisely.
  • Comprehensive understanding of North American energy, capacity, ancillary services, and REC markets structures and pricing.

Working Conditions -
95% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (standard Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 5% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors and/or internal customers, in addition to attending conferences and meetings. Evening and weekend work may be required as business needs dictate.
Benefits -
This role's annual base salary range is between $126,600 and $211,000.
