Position Summary
The Marine Port Engineer will inspect, service and repair critical systems on our vessels to maintain equipment uptime and operational safety. In addition to vessel maintenance, the Port Engineer will lead the training and development of crew as relates to proper inspection, maintenance, and safe operation of WCP vessels. Critical systems under the responsibly of the Port Engineer include engines, gears, generators, winches, steering, hydraulic and sanitation systems among others. Duties include coordinating both dockside and dry dock projects in addition to emergency repairs.
Essential Job Duties
Essential job duties include the following:
1) Maintaining the safety of WCP crew and vessels is a requirement for all WCP personnel. Coordinate with regulatory and internal stakeholders to inspect, audit and maintain vessels in a safe and seaworthy condition.
2) Performance testing and troubleshooting of critical vessel systems such as engines, steering, hydraulic and electrical systems among others.
3) Training and management of crew on vessel upkeep and maintenance procedures.
4) Forecast vessel servicing and repair costs in partnership with the Port Captain.
5) Managing vendors and suppliers to fulfill vessel maintenance duties.
6) Maintaining service records and reports in compliance software such as HELM.
Qualifications
· High School diploma or equivalent
· Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
· Previous safety and compliance experience in safety sensitive industries.
· Proven work experience as a Marine Mechanic.
· Previous experience managing and leading teams of at least 5-10 individuals.
· Previous experience in training and crew development.
· Knowledge of marine engine and electrical auxiliary systems.
· Highly proficient welding skills.
· Knowledge of marine hydraulic systems and boat steering systems and related parts.
· Highly effective and professional verbal and written communication.
· Previous experience with a working knowledge of maritime regulations and safety standards.
· Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces.

· Ability to work on nights and weekends if required.
· Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
· Proficient in using relevant software and technology.
· An ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
· Ability to work Saturdays and on a Sunday if an emergency occurs.
· Ability to lift 25 pounds to chest height.
· Must be able to hear and communicate with others including radio use.
· Must be able to view, read and complete paperwork and use a computer.
· Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, and kneel frequently.
· Ability to work over 40 hours per week based on work requirements.
Additional Requirements
· Familiarity with industry-specific software, navigation systems and safety software is preferred.
· A willingness to be on call and work irregular hours if required.
