Position Summary:
Schafer Industries is currently seeking aManufacturing Engineerfor its Schafer Gear Works operation inRoscoe, IL.

Job Summary:
Responsible for the overall technical effectiveness of machining operations as well as planning for tooling and complete shop support in these areas. Responsibilities also includes product cost estimating and/or CNC machine programming.
Essential Job Functions:
Support Manufacturing by:
  • Participating in APQP of new products for smooth running of new products on production floor.
  • Providing daily production support through relevant process technicians and operators
  • Identifying continuous improvements in manufacturing processes for existing products.
  • Utilizing SOLIDWORKS and ESPRIT CAM software to design and develop machining processes
  • Creating part manufacturing routings for cost estimating and manufacturing purposes.
  • Support production team to minimize down time with a priority on bottleneck work cells
  • Making recommendations if equipment needs to be replaced or new capacity is needed

Support Tooling Design by:
  • Designing all work holding tooling and gaging as necessary to fabricate parts
  • Evaluating areas for improvement on current processes and potential tooling requirements

Support Quality by:
  • Analyzing quality problems to find root causes and putting corrective actions in place.
  • Supporting QA as necessary on setup or final inspections
  • Helping operators on floor as necessary for inspection techniques.

Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
  • Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
  • Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures.
  • Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
  • Maintaining Lean 6S program in the individual area.
  • Adopting the company's Lean Culture.
  • Performing other job-related duties as required or assigned.
  • Passing along vital information to the Supervisor for effectiveness of the system.
  • Training new employees.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Experience in metals cutting
  • Understanding of gear manufacturing is a plus
  • Knowledge of machining best practices, materials and heat treat processes
  • Experience with product cost estimating/quoting.
  • Skilled in 3D Solid Modeling and CAM Software
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in Project Management
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products

Working Conditions:
  • Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.
  • This job is to be performed at the designated facility 100% of the time unless directed otherwise by manager/supervisor.
