CAST MOLDING TECHNICIAN

Job Summary
Within established guidelines, performs mold base and insert changes for molding operations.  Monitors process set up using various metrology systems.  Makes changes as necessary to ensure product is within established specifications. Responsible for processes critical to the quality of the product and the impact quality can have on the end user.  Experienced level position allowing the employee to become familiar with the advanced, quality critical stages of manufacturing contact lenses.

Essential Functions
 

  • Adjust tooling and sustain cast molding operations while monitoring product yield using statistical process control and advanced metrology equipment.
  • Possess good knowledge of the use and operation of metrology and inspection equipment to obtain results of process and product performance in order to maintain them.
  • Help maintain manufacturing equipment in operational conditions to meet and sustain established KPI's.
  • Use current procedures to document process changes or tests.
  • Perform adjustment or tests, which may include but not limited to molds, "tooling" and equipment according to established procedures and document in writing as necessary. 
  • Assist, if required, on corrective and preventive maintenance according to requirements.
  • Notify supervisor of any equipment failure or process performance event, and assist on corrective action.
  • Participate in validation activities (assist in Installation Quality (IQ)/Operation Quality (OQ)/Performance Quality (PQ) execution), improvement projects and procedural revisions.
  • Use simple hand tools to perform adjustment operations
  • Promote communication between supervisor, production team and other personnel in order to achieve desired goals.
  • As business needs dictate, works extended hours to complete daily department goals or tasks to include mandatory overtime.
  • Performs other duties as needed/assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

  • Exhibits good communication skills - verbal, written, and comprehension of the English language
  • Sound foundation in mathematical and mechanical principle
  • Can work well in a team environment
  • Has the ability to work through complex technical issues
  • Good understanding of and compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), regulatory requirements, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP's).
  • Basic Knowledge of mechanical systems (pneumatic, electronic, hydraulic) preferred
  • Required to read and understand SOP's. Requires training within the scope of an approved SOP.  
  • Follows appropriate safety and equipment maintenance procedures.   
  • Demonstrates qualities which show an interest and competency level for future advancement. 
  • Requires full understanding of Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, cGMP's, and the consequences of not following them.

Work Environment:

  • Works scheduled holidays and overtime in order to maintain service levels for customers
  • May work a 24/7 schedule as needed
  • Works in a team manufacturing environment receiving direction from the Production Supervisors and Maintenance Technicians.

Experience:

  • 1+ year of experience in cast molding; 3 years of experience as a lathe technician; or similar experience.  
  • Manufacturing experience required. 
  • Contact lens manufacturing experience desired.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required.  
  • Associate Degree in Industrial Mechanics and/or Electro-mechanic, or equivalent experience with an automated and injection molding processes preferred.

BIOFINITY TECHNICIAN

Job Summary:
Provide training on lathes and automated manufacturing equipment according to current Standard Operating Procedure and provide technical production support services. Responsible for processes critical to the quality of the product and the impact quality can have on the end user. The ability to troubleshoot equipment problems. Use and operation of metrology and inspection equipment to obtain results of process. Use, operation and train on metrology and inspection equipment to obtain results of process.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

  • Machine set-up, calibration, adjustments, installations and work-In-progress inspection.
  • Regularly set up production and technical equipment in the production line and checks for continued adherence to standards of tolerance and product quality.
  • Regularly checks work samples to assure proper machine results and to make adjustments, modifications or part replacements.
  • Regularly inspects parts to assure proper machine results and makes any necessary adjustments or modifications according to procedure.
  • Perform equipment cleaning duties as necessary.
  • Maintain regular surveillance overall production Operations involving equipment, answers questions and may demonstrate use of machinery.
  • As directed, trouble shoots problems and makes equipment adjustments, changes or recommendations to the Supervisor.
  • Perform other technical or support services related to production as directed.
  • May evaluate new or prototype equipment relative to production.
  • Sometimes substitutes for production employees.
  • Maintain records and information according to procedure. 
  • In the absence of the Coordinator, will oversee the department.
  • Maintain training records and administer technician's recertification program including annual training, according to the training certification procedure.
  • Act as a first line of defense in trouble shooting lathing issues prior to contacting maintenance.
  • Train technicians on production equipment according to SOP's.
  • May evaluate new or prototype equipment relative to production.
  • Train technicians in proper measuring techniques on various equipment.
  • As business needs dictate, works extended hours to complete daily department goals or tasks to include mandatory overtime.
  • Performs other duties as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

LVA TECHNICIAN

Job Summary
Operate Low Volume Automation and other equipment as required according to current Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and provide technical production support services. Responsible for processes critical to the quality of the product and the impact quality can have on the end user. Ability to troubleshoot technical problems. Use and operation of inspection equipment and analytical data to obtain, record and analyze results of process.  Use, operate and train on metrology and data collection systems.  Use analytical software and control programs to efficiently set up, monitor and optimize automated equipment. 
 

Essential Functions

  • Machine loading, adjustments, product set up and work in progress inspection. (70%)
    • Regularly set up, monitor and optimize low volume automation processing.
    • Utilize tools and technical equipment on the production line to check for continued adherence to standards of tolerance, line performance metrics and product quality.
    • Work as part of a dynamic team environment to ensure automation equipment operates optimally.
    • Responsible for optimal operation of equipment to include data analysis and rapid response to correct deviations. 
    • Regularly analyze data and inspect samples to assure proper machine results and make any necessary adjustments or modifications according to procedure.
    • Perform equipment cleaning duties as necessary.
    • Maintain regular surveillance over all production operations, load supplies, operate machine stations and interface with Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens.
    • As directed, trouble shoot problems and make equipment adjustments, changes or recommendations to the Supervisor or Process Engineer.
    • Perform other technical or support services related to production as directed.
    • Provide operational feedback to the Dry Molding process in a timely manner to minimize impact to line performance and quality. 
    • Update the management team and business unit on the current status of equipment/production with written turnover reports  as well as verbal updates as required.
    • As a team member be extremely proactive in problem solving and identification of equipment or production issues.  Take immediate mitigation steps to minimize negative impact to performance metrics.
    • Use simple hand tools to perform adjustment operations.
    • Lead cross functional performance meetings to review daily metrics with quality, engineering, maintenance and operations personnel.
    • As business needs dictate, works extended hours to complete daily department goals or tasks to include mandatory overtime.
    • Perform other assignments as directed.
  • Analytical Skills. (20%)
    • Operate, enter data, and retrieve data into electronic devices such as computers, scanners, and HMI control panels.
    • Interpret equipment performance and apply corrective actions as needed.
  • Train new employees or cross-train current employees. (5%)
  • In the absence of a Coordinator or Supervisor, will oversee the operators on the line. (5%)
  • Other duties may be assigned.
