Summary

We are looking for a Production Manager that is technically expert as well as people savvy to work in our Northern Florida manufacturing plant. To perform well, you must be knowledgeable and able to utilize all your resources. A successful candidate will be self-motivated with excellent communication skills to mentor, motivate and grow our production teams. A make-it-happen approach and ownership of the role comes with potential future growth opportunities within our company.

Specifically, the role manages, oversees and coordinates activities of production employees in processing materials or manufacturing products in the organization by performing the following duties personally and through subordinate Lead personnel under the direction of the Director of Manufacturing. Works collaboratively with all departments to expedite and monitor status of the flow of material, parts, and assemblies within the plant environment; solves technical, process and production challenges utilizing Engineering resources. Supports a culture of customer satisfaction and quality work.

Essential Functions

  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Oversees production floor to ensure all employees are working productively, efficiently and with proper product quality.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities.
  • Provides OJT floor support and resolves issues on the floor.
  • Schedules labor on assigned shift, to include minimizing overtime and temporary work force reductions as needed (sending unneeded staff home).
  • Production Manager will typically work through Work Center Leads and/or Production Expediter (depending upon size of shift) in each work center to accomplish results.
  • Analyzes labor requirements on a monthly basis and makes recommendations for work force reductions or additions based on scheduled workload.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance (quality and output) and optimum utilization, with support from Engineering/Maintenance.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with all procedures, practices and standards.
  • Ensures efficient and cost-effective production of Work Orders based on priorities, production schedules and shortages to establish efficient execution of workflow.
  • Ensures accurate shop floor movement on shift.
  • Ensures that RMA’s are completed as required by customers.
  • Ensures work orders are completed in full in less than 30 days from start date, in compliance with work order due dates.
  • Confers with production, program and engineering management to resolve problems affecting production schedules and to make improvements in processes and production flow.
  • Issue written and oral instructions to personnel on the floor.
  • Reviews and requests engineering adjustments to manufacturing process instructions (MPI’s), routings and drawings as needed.
  • Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, quality and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Works with teams; sponsor open communication. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves problems. Supports a continuous learning environment for all employees.
  • Prepare reports and metrics as assigned for management from detail data; make corrections/ revisions to data as needed.
  • Attend meetings with management and provide production, quality, efficiency and project status.
  • May be required to interface directly with customers, translating and implementing requirements directly into production.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

A seasoned, experienced leader who can select, teach, coach and mentor a workforce to support quality-driven, customer focused operations. High energy and action oriented, driven individual to manages employees in the Production areas either directly or through subordinate Leads, Expediters and/or Supervisors. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, training and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's procedures, policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, with assistance of Human Resource staff if needed. Must have ability to supervise Lead Personnel and interact effectively with other departments.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year university is desirable; a two-year degree is required. In addition, a minimum of five (5) years related experience in production management is required. Experience and/or training may be substituted for education requirements beyond the two-year degree if the manager has experience specifically in the electronics or manufacturing industry, preferably in contract manufacturing. Electronics Certification or electronics military training highly desirable.
