Job Description: Process/Manufacturing Engineer

SpecCoat (Specialized Coating Services) is a well-established and growing manufacturing company located in Billerica, MA.  SpecCoat specializes in the conformal coating and encapsulation (potting) of printed circuit board assemblies.  To support this growth, the position of Process/Manufacturing Engineer is now open.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

·       Working with customer & SpecCoat program managers to provide solutions to customer needs & requirements.

·       Lead & drive continuous improvement across all processes in the factory

·       Assist program managers with job costing.

·       Developing process instructions & production work instructions.

·       Designing fixtures and tooling for encapsulation (potting) and conformal coating products.

·       Creating programs and related process instructions for the set-up, operation, maintenance and trouble-shooting of computer-controlled dispensing & conformal coating equipment.

·       Training operators to set-up, operate and maintain computer-controlled dispensing & coating equipment, vacuum pumps & chambers, ionic tester, ESD monitoring equipment, meter mix systems, oven, UV curing systems, plasma chamber, aqueous cleaning system, etc.

·       Troubleshoot all machines & equipment as needed.

• Calibration of all internally calibrated machines & equipment per the established schedule.
• Providing technical support for the operations and conformal coating of PCBs.
• Supporting operations in resolving problems that arise in the conformal coating process line including masking/demasking, inspection and quality.
•  Working closely with facility manager to maintain coating processing equipment.
• Programing and operating coating equipment as needed.
• Reviewing processes and procedures, implementing efficiency and repeatability throughout the coating operation.
• Provide technical guidance and liaison to manufacturing and test engineering while assisting supervisors on new techniques to determine the cause of rejected products.
• Specifying all necessary special processes, equipment, and fixtures required for conformal coating as needed for production and process improvement purposes.
• Working alongside the management to ensure that overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.

Education, Skills and Competencies:

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or science fields with at least 1 year experience.
• High School Diploma and 5 – 10 years of experience
• Experience with equipment or computer-controlled machinery programming.
• Experience working with Chemicals or willing to work with chemicals.

·       Experience with PCB conformal coating and encapsulation standards IPC, MIL, NASA, UL, ATEX, ESD.

·       Experience with dispensing/coating robots (Nordson, PVA, Asymtek, Techon, etc.) a definite plus

·       Working knowledge of epoxies, urethanes, silicones, acrylics, etc.

·       Experience programming, working with and troubleshooting robotic equipment is required. 

·       Fixture and mold design experience.

·       Read and understand drawings and specifications

·       Understand and work easily in Metric, British, and US unit systems.  Also with viscosity, volume, distance, area, resistivity, torque, temperature changes.

·       Experience in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.  Experience in PCB industry is a definite plus.

·       Self-motivated, detail -oriented person with minimal supervision.

·       Can communicate effectively with Executive Management, peers, program managers, production operators and customers.

·       Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100.

•  Self-motivated individual who can work both independently and part of a team.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in the ever-changing Conformal coating and PCB industries.
