Prototype Fabrication (PF) Division is seeking R&D Engineers to provide computer-aided design and manufacturing support for high-precision components vital to the Lab's mission.
In this role, you will contribute to engineering assignments within a manufacturing environment. This work includes professional CNC programming support through the development of machining processes, tool paths, fixture design, cutting tool selection and process verification.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of CNC programming techniques for machined components.
- Knowledge of manual and CNC machining principles, including fixturing, tooling and machine operation.
- General familiarity with manufacturing processes, material selection, tooling development, welding, machining, and inspection.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software, preferably CREO and Mastercam.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) to ASME Y14.5 standard.
- Knowledge applying engineering practices and principles supporting capability development within a manufacturing environment.
Communication and Teamwork
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required to communicate with colleagues, management, and customers.
- Demonstrated record of dependability, reliability, and commitment to the long-term needs of the job duties and programmatic goals of the organization.
Education/Experience
- Position requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution AND 2 years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education AND experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience supporting R&D CNC machining and inspection operations within a complex manufacturing environment.
- Experience using an ERP/MRP software, preferably JobBoss, within a manufacturing environment to document and control manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge or ASQ certifications in Quality Engineering, SPC, or Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing methodologies.
