Calspan Systems in Newport News, VA is an industry leader in the engineering and manufacture of complex aerospace hardware and prototype systems for ground test and flight applications. We have been employed in the development of nearly every domestic fixed-wing aircraft, missile, and helicopter system. We are looking for a Manufacturing CNC Programmer to join our team. This position is responsible for shop scheduling, creates pre-planning estimates and ensures programming and operational work packages are complete and issued in a timely manner.
Experienced Programmers with strong working knowledge of comprehensive 3D CAD systems (preferably NX), including 3D modeling of analysis of geometry
- Responsible for day-to-day machine shop coordination of programming issues
- Track job budgets/schedules and notifies department manager of problems/solutions
- Apply computer aided design (CAD) techniques and software tools to analyze drawings, sketches and design data of 3D aerospace parts.
- Determine dimensions and configurations of cuts
- Selects cutting tools, machine speeds and feed rates
- Determine reference points and direction of machine cutting paths
- Computer angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures and outline the sequences of operations require to machine components
- Work closely with the engineering and machine shop departments to produce the most efficient machine instructions in symbolic language to encode CNC tap[e pf direct numerical control data base to regulate movement of machine along cutting path to produce R&D marine and aerospace hardware
- Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles
Preferred Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline;
- 5+ years of related discipline; or
- A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
- Must be a self-starter, able to work on multiple projects, and prioritize workload
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Extensive knowledge of scheduling multiple activities.
- Knowledge of all aspects of machining, including interpreting blueprints, precision measuring and tools, machine setups, and programming preferred.
