DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages and directs a variety of engineering activities and personnel to identify, evaluate, manage and rehabilitate various systems.
- Lead the Wastewater Collection System Analysis group and responsible for analyzing the collection system while prescribing preventative measures designed to reduce sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and improve long term performance in alignment with Consent Decree commitments.
- Provides technical expertise in researching, developing, redesigning, monitoring and implementing various plans, designs and projects.
- Establishes goals, evaluates performance and manages budget.
- Responds to inquiries by departments, consultants, agencies and the public.
- Supervises and monitors quality control efforts of existing staff and trains/develops new personnel.
- Attends meetings and conferences.
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.
This is a Houston Public Works Department position at the Tier II Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with a satisfactory standing.
OR
Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Eight years of active practice in engineering work after graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering, with four of the years as a licensed Professional Engineer, are required.
Substitution: A Master’s degree in Engineering may be substituted for up to two years of the above experience requirement.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. A specific branch of engineering (such as civil, mechanical, structural, etc.) may be required.
Engineers from out-of-state must
Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
Preference will be given to candidates that possess a Class A Wastewater Operator License issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
