We provide customized end-to-end chain of custody solutions for our large pharmaceutical clients and partners in academia and government, ensuring the integrity and efficacy of their valued material from the manufacturer to the bedside.
Position summary:
The Transportation Fleet Manager coordinates daily operations of the Commercial Transportation department, ensuring company standards, maintain dispatch sheet daily, budgeting and cost reduction initiatives associated with frozen specimen transportation. Responsibility involves all transportation-related functions for equipment movement within commercial operations to ensure the achievement of departmental and company objectives. This position also is responsible leading a third-party fleet management vendor and the assets that are under management with this vendor.
What will you do?
- Manage trucks and drivers in scheduling using DOT guidelines.
- Track and reports required data for state and local gas/mileage tax purposes.
- Ensures all DOT and OSHA safety standards are in compliance at all times.
- On-call 24/7 as required supporting HAZMAT transportation and requirements.
- Ensures all routine maintenance is performed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Identifies and implements continuous improvement for optimizing delivery and cost efficiencies and provides variance analysis.
- Provides status updates on current projects and provide direction related to new initiatives.
- Leads employee training and performance reviews as well as career development.
- Analyzes fleet performance and initiate projects to ensure optimal usage.
- Review partner list and outlines best ways to use the fleet.
- Support initiatives to add trucking vendors or expand current partnerships.
- Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Basic Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability.
To perform this job successfully, an individual completes each essential duty including:
- Proficiency in personal computer skills, specifically Microsoft office and Lotus Notes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer focused, problem solving, and planning/organization skills.
- Flexibility to work hours as needed including on-call to over-the-road driver teams.
- Outlining solutions and effectively plan and coordinate maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance strategies.
Education/ Experience:
- Requires High School diploma, Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Requires 5+ years transportation operations including routing and scheduling experience.
- Requires detailed knowledge of CDL/DOT, Maryland and federal laws and regulations on transportation.
- Requires thorough knowledge of trucks and transport refrigeration equipment maintenance and repair including associated electronic controls.
Certificates and/ or Licenses:
- CDL B license
- Hazmat Endorsement
- Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Leads all drivers in the transportation department.
Work Schedule:
8AM to 5PM core hours with additional hours as the need arises. May be required to work non-traditional work week/hours.
Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Functioning in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, marked changes in temperature.
- May push/pull 600 lb liquid nitrogen dewars, and work from a platform ladder.
- Must use personal protective equipment and adhere to safety protocols.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and push up to 100 lbs.
- Process and handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C) or liquid nitrogen (-196°C) for up to 6 hours per day.
- Work in walk-in freezers or refrigerators periodically.
- Use a computer up to 6 hours per day.
- Drive automotive equipment, and load and unload equipment into and out of company vehicle.
