As part of AMECO’s Integrated Scaffold Solution (ISP), scaffold designers perform the critical function of preparing scaffold 3-D designs within the construction engineering model as well as scaffold designs for a multitude of access requirements on client support job locations. The Scaffold Design Manager is the key interface between the LNGC JFJV project construction team, the AMECO Scaffold Program Leadership Team, and the designers assigned to the project.
This position reports directly to Scaffold Program Manager, with a responsibility to the site JFJV Scaffold Supervisor, and is responsible for the management and review of the engineered drawings, interpretation of the access required for construction activities, and for creation of scaffold designs for field execution or estimating purposes.
The Scaffold Design Manager is responsible for all coordination efforts for the project, integration of designs into construction work packages, and for the overall management of the designers from a manager’s perspective. This is the senior design role at the site and this position serves as a Subject Matter Expert for the Project Construction and Engineering Team.
Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for management and mentorship of all scaffold designers, scaffolding yard employees, and other designated administrative staff
- Responsible for inventory management of all scaffolding material
- Responsible for coordinating scaffold material handling with projects, whether internal or external
- Monitor and report supplier's performance toward completion of all deliverables in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the Purchase Order
- Collaborate through coordination meetings across all disciplines including Material Management, Supplier Quality Surveillance (SQS)/Quality, Engineering, and Construction
- Generate documents, organize, and manage files, and maintain tracking data and reports
- Perform routine activities to ensure timely delivery of material to support construction or other activities
- Conduct bid clarifications, pre-award, post-award, supplier schedule/quality recovery meetings
- Provide scaffolding and temporary works design schemes for the project
- Ensure all designs adhere to the latest codes of practice, manufacturers specifications, BC OHS regulations, Company policies, and contractors’ request
- Apply engineering knowledge to analyze the structural integrity of scaffolding and temporary works structures
- Assess and design-out hazards where possible within the design process and propose effective control measures for the reduction and elimination of risk
- Conduct site surveys, collect and assess site information, liaise with clients, and site teams, as well as represent the Company at design and site meetings
- Understand the practicalities of the erection, use, and dismantling of scaffolding, as well as its main functions in key industry sectors, and apply this knowledge to improve our service provision, processes, and standards.
Typical Minimum Qualifications – Related Education, Experience & Skills
- 15+ years of Scaffold background including but not limited to management, logistics and procurement, job estimating, budgeting, and detailed scaffold design. Experience with the PERI UP system is preferred.
- 5+ years of supervision experience leading a technical team and/or managing and leading a large project
- Practical field experience as a scaffold designer or scaffold supervisor on a large, complex project
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and two (2) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twelve (12) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications to comply with local requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
- Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
- Proficient computer and software skills including the use of word processing, email, spreadsheets, scheduling software, design software, and estimating tools
- Excellent 2D and 3D CAD skills preferably in AutoCAD
- Experience with Navisworks Simulate
- Knowledge of Architectural drawing standards with the ability to read and prepare Architectural drawings
- Advanced ability to assemble accurate and complete 3D models of customer projects
