The Opportunity
This position works out of our North Chicago, IL location in the Core Lab Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
The Manager, Reagent Receiving and Shipping Operations, will lead daily operations in a dynamic and complex environment at the Abbott Diagnostics Lake County Distribution Center (LCDC). Abbott Diagnostics Distribution Shipping Operations is responsible for all distribution activities associated with receipt, storage (-20C, 2C to 8C and 15C to 30C) and shipment of instruments, reagents, and accessories to domestic customers and international affiliates. This includes picking/packaging, order consolidation and dock loading activities within LCDC. Daily parcels shipped average 3,000 per day with a complex combination of cold chain and hazardous products. Frequently interacting with Safety, Planning, Quality, Packaging Engineering, Facility Engineer, and Customer Service to ensure daily sales expectations are achieved.
What You’ll Work On
Lead the receiving, order fulfilment and Shipping dock team to achieve daily International and Domestic Receiving and Shipping expectations.
Monitor daily workload and adjusting resources as required to achieve safety; customer order fill rate, direct labor, and quality metrics (pick accuracy, human error and QR).
Responsible for addressing employee related issues to include coaching and development, training; performance assessments and reviews; corrective counseling; and hiring of exempt and non-exempt personnel.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies and procedures.
Draft, submit, and approve procedural changes that improve our compliance to the Quality System.
Work with cross-functional teams within the division and across divisions to support key projects.
Collaborate with Logistics; Customer Service; Packaging Engineering, Quality, and IT to drive process improvements for IT systems; processes and packaging opportunities.
CAPA certified to resolve quality issues and implements corrective and preventative actions as required.
Primary back up for Distribution/Warehousing Operations Manager.
Required to lead internal and external regulatory audits and tours.
Address facility temperature alarms during the weekend and holidays.
Participate on the site safety team and provide innovative ideas to drive awareness and improve safety throughout the site.
Assist in the development of the financial plan for the department and ensuring execution to plan – Direct labor budget in excess of $3MM.
Identify capital/expense needs for the facility and implement RCEs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, or Technical Discipline, OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Information Systems is highly desired.
Substantial experience in a combination of warehouse management, planning, and inventory management.
Significant experience with ERP Systems, (e.g., SAP/APO and Business Warehouse data usage), analysis and presentation.
Excellent analytical and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functional and build consensus across functional, business unite, and geographic boundaries.
Knowledge of domestic and international shipping processes.
4+ years of experience in shipping / warehouse operations, budgeting, IATA, DOT, FDA, and ISO regulations.
4 – 6 years of distribution supervisory experience is preferred.
CAPA certified and experience with SAP and other distribution shipping systems.
Must have excellent employee relations skills along with experience managing in an operations environment.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
