Quality Manager - Incoming Inspection

Position Summary:
The Incoming Inspection Quality Manager leads a group of skilled Inspectors, CMM Programmers, Metallurgical Lab Technicians and Technicians for specialized inspection processes for Pease, Exeter, Rochester, and Durham facilities on all shifts. Specialized inspection processes include but are not limited to Non-Contact Digital Photogrammetry and X-Ray inspection. The team's mission is to ensure all purchased components and outside processes meet all drawing and specification requirements prior to release to assembly and other internal processing operations. Purchased component technologies include high volume, precision CNC machining, barrel manufacturing, MIM (Metal Injection Molding), stampings, assembly, and polymer molding. Outside processes include high volume heat treating of multiple alloys, plating, multiple surface coatings, surface treatments such as shot peening, finishing, and painting.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for ensuring urgency of inspection, disposition and control of incoming products and services. The Incoming Inspection Quality Manager must be technically proficient in technical disciplines including but not limited to GD&T, Gage R&R / Bias, manual inspection methods, Industrial Metrology, Metallurgical Inspection, and with familiarity of CMM inspection and equipment. It is the responsibility of the Incoming Inspection Quality Manager to integrate these tools into daily inspection procedures and guide the team to continually improve these procedures. In addition, the Manager must advise management on inspection equipment end of life, and to help plan for capital expense and replacement based on his recommendations and in-depth knowledge of the equipment.
This position requires strong leadership and the ability to work well in a team environment and with diverse departments. Proven communication skills are critical to this management role within operations. The Incoming Inspection Quality Manager is responsible for keeping Production and Operations Management informed of all Incoming Inspection status by logging status on SIG Oracle system and attending supply chain meetings at a frequency determined by those entities. Interaction with production Supervisors and the Supplier Quality team is required to improve and maximize product flow and quality.
Team responsibilities include:
*Supervise subordinates, including performance reviews, time, attendance, and disciplinary reports when necessary.
*Provide hands-on leadership, guidance and team support when needed.
*Build skills of entry level inspectors to achieve a higher level of competency.
*Generate, review and revise work instructions and procedures.
*Execution of and conformance to detailed inspection procedures for all parts and processes while working with the Supplier Quality Engineers with new and modified procedures.
*Close communications with the Supply Chain group regarding daily priorities.
*Precise conformance and execution of SIG SAUER and ISO 9001 procedures for disposition of product including Waivers, Deviations and Supplier NMRs.
*Execution of special contract inspection requirements such as QAPs (Quality Assurance Plan) and AQL (Acceptable Quality Level).
*Precise conformance and Execution of SIG SAUER and ISO FA (First Article) procedures for all new and revised parts and processes.
*Precise record keeping for above procedures.
*Thorough understanding and application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5-2018.
*Maintain calibration and maintenance of all inspection equipment.
*Keep abreast of new technology, complete capital planning for the group annually and execute the approved capital plan.
*Track department performance metrics relative to established goals and post results via visual management.
*Provide inspection support to NPI (New Product Introduction) teams, Quality and Engineering improvement projects.
*Manages, participates in, and sustains 5S Standards.
*Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills:
*A bachelor's degree is preferred with a minimum of 5 years in a quality management role or a minimum of 10 years' experience with documented education in the technical fields or engineering beyond High School.
*At a minimum, the Incoming Inspection Quality Manager must have experience and knowledge pertaining to attribute and variable inspection using manual methods including hard gages, indicators, micrometers, comparators, etc.
*Ability to create and manage reports and metrics.
*Proven record of development and use of KPIs.
*Ability to lead, supervise and motivate a group of approximately 25 inspectors and technicians in multiple locations.
*In depth knowledge of GD&T, Gage R&R / Bias.
*Working knowledge of metallurgical inspection and equipment.
*Working knowledge of CMM inspection, fixturing and equipment.
*Knowledge of gage design and tolerancing.
*Working knowledge of high-tech inspection methods such as Non-Contact Digital Photogrammetry and X-Ray inspection.
*Working knowledge of Non-Destructive Inspection such as Magnetic Particle Inspection and Dye Penetrant Inspection.
*Ability to prioritize workload and quickly resolve daily issues.
*Must be able to work on several projects at a time, to meet the needs of a rapidly changing environment.
*Work autonomously with little supervision.
*Computer literacy with demonstrated experience with MS Office Suite.
*This position must be able to respond to and manage issues pertinent to the position during off hours 24/7.
Working Conditions:
*The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment.
*Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
*Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
*Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
*Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
