Summary:
The Manager, Purchasing and Global Car Plans oversees the Global Car plan and corporate purchasing functions ensuring compliance with FM Global's established policies and procedures and proposes recommendations to amend such policies when necessary.
This role provides both operational and strategic oversight to the United States and Canadian leased company car and employee-owned vehicle programs. Overseeing the daily operation of these programs, the Manager, Purchasing and Global Car Plans ensures the efficient delivery of excellent customer service to nearly 2,000 North American car plan participants. The incumbent is primarily responsible for all vendor management activities associated with FM Global's North American leasing management company. Furthermore, the Manager, Purchasing and Global Car Plans will develop the annual vehicle selector listings for senior management review and oversee the annual fringe benefit tax calculation process for FM Global's North American driver population.
The Manager, Purchasing and Global Car Plans is also responsible for FM Global's purchasing function primarily focusing on the procurement of FM Global branded merchandise, client recognition awards, office supplies and small equipment products while overseeing vendor selection and negotiation of pricing and terms. This role also oversees and maintains vendor online ordering portals.
This position closely collaborates with many other internal departments such as Risk Management, Law & Governmental Affairs, Client Services and Human Resources.
Schedule & Location:
This is an exempt, office-based position in Johnston, Rhode Island. The schedule requires the employee to work on-site four days per week. The schedule is Monday through Friday 40 hours per week with flexible start and stop times based on business needs. Employees must work on-site, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and either Tuesday or Friday may work remotely.
Responsibilities
  • Manages the administration of the FM Global Car Plans in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Addresses complex car plan questions and acts as intermediary between fleet management company and car plan participants.
  • Develops and maintains car plan policy monitoring systems and controls.
  • Collaborating with Risk Management, oversees the development and administration of driver safety programs.
  • Constructs the annual car plan selectors for senior management review and approval.
  • Oversight of the fringe benefit tax calculations for United States and Canadian leased company car program participants.
  • Manages FM Global's relationship with its North American fleet management company and engages in frequent negotiations with vehicle manufacturers.
  • Manages the corporate purchasing function ensuring that purchases comply with FM Global's Corporate Purchasing Policy and the highest ethical standards.
  • Designs and maintains procedures to ensure that purchase orders are complete and accurate before they are released to FM Global's vendors.
  • Negotiates various purchases of materials, services, supplies and equipment to assure lowest possible cost, appropriate quality, and timely delivery.
  • Serves as a consultative business partner when business owners require a holistic evaluation of prospective or current vendors.
  • Strategically plans departmental workflow whilst providing staff with appropriate coaching and mentoring to ensure individual and group success.
  • Serves as subject matter expert during cross-functional projects.

Qualifications
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration or finance

Preferred Credentials:
  • Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) Designation
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) Certification

Required Work Experience:
  • 8 years of related experience
  • Prior managerial experience

Highly Preferred Work Experience:
  • 10 + years of car fleet management and/or procurement program administration experience

Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of fleet asset management and the automobile industry, including comprehensive understanding of vehicle maintenance, risk, safety, and other car fleet related programs.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement function, including negotiation strategies, vendor selection techniques, supply chain management and value enhancement strategies.
  • Knowledge of car fleet related fringe benefit tax computation requirements.
  • Sound decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to analyze large data sets and elicit patterns and trends.
  • Advanced knowledge of process flow and logistics.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Working knowledge of fleet management and/or procurement systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively convey messaging to all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to effect organizational change.
  • Sound understanding of contractual language with ability to review legal agreements.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software suite (i.e., primarily Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

The hiring range for this position is $114,300-$164,200 annually. The final salary offer will vary based on individual education, skills, and experience.
