The location of this role is the Tucson, Arizona office.
The Role
This role will be responsible for leading management operating systems (MOS) and business routines to ensure project excellence and a sustainable project. They are accountable for business planning support at Hermosa (both fiscal year plans and monthly plans), accountable for supporting the Hermosa Leadership Team (HLT) MOS; accountable for leading the risk function at Hermosa; accountable for the business improvement function at Hermosa; supports Hermosa President & Project Director roles with delegated authority as needed; extends and enables capacity for the President Hermosa & Vice President Project Delivery.
Accountabilities (Include but are not limited to):
Individual Accountabilities:
  • Management Operating Systems- lead and facilitate the South32 MOS for the Project Delivery team and own supporting data to ensure single source of truth. Includes development and management of key business processes; setting cadence for MOS meetings and deliverables; working with project teams to ensure agreed targets are achieved; and ensuring coordination and response to management assurance reviews.
  • Management Operating System (Hermosa Leadership Team)-Lead and facilitate the South32 MOS for the Hermosa Leadership Team and owns the supporting data to ensure single source of truth. This includes tracking actions and ensuring timely completion working with HLT members; prepares and facilitates weekly HLT meeting; prepares and facilitates monthly HLT meeting; partners with the President Hermosa to prepare the annual fiscal year business plan and other ad hoc meetings and engagements as required.
  • Liaises with corporate stakeholders- owns the business planning process for the project, as well as the weekly and monthly meeting routines for the Hermosa Leadership Team and the Hermosa Project Team. \
    • Ensures business plans are updated and actioned per the South32 standards
    • Ensures project execution is on schedule spend and assists VP Project Delivery to identify variances and implement corrective actions
    • Applies leadership and expertise to raise the execution level of the Hermosa Leadership Team and Hermosa Project Team
  • Risk Leadership- Supervises the Lead, Risk and Compliance role at Hermosa. Liaises with corporate stakeholders as needed; supports and Lead, Risk and Compliance to embed risk and opportunity into the Hermosa MOS; ensures risk routines meet Corporate minimum standards and ensures risk and opportunity become culturally embedded at Hermosa
  • Ad Hoc Project Management -Extends and enables capacity of the President Hermosa and VP Project Delivery
    • Leads the closeout of governance processes (3rd line audits, 2nd line audits, other assurance activities such as Independent Peer Reviews (IPRs), reserve audits, etc.
    • Drafts Board memos and responses by gathering required information and distilling complex information into concise, easy to understand written communication that is written for all audiences.
    • Prepares presentations to communicate project progress such as Hermosa Steerco monthly meetings
    • Other requests from Lead Team, Board, CIC, etc.

Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
  • Bachelor of Science degree; technical degree or business preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in mining and/or technical disciplines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the business planning cycle, life of mine/operation (LoM, LoOP) planning and business analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to create strategic plans and monitor their execution
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships and work through influence
  • Demonstrated ability to create strategic plans and drive execution
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage relationships and work through influence
  • Ability to translate business goals into tactical plans
  • Ability to track and manage projects
  • Understanding of and adherence of environmental permitting process and obligations of existing permits
  • Excellent data and business analysis skills - ability to conduct detailed analysis, define KPIs, provide business logic and calculations, meet reporting requirements, etc.
  • Proficient as a facilitator of workshops and process improvement initiatives using continuous improvement methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience developing executive written & presentation materials (i.e. Board Papers, Executive Presentations, etc.)
  • Experience developing performance reporting and analysis tools
