Job Summary

Directs and supervises Pharmacy Services for the campus including central pharmacy and satellites, IV sterile and non-sterile compounding, drug distribution and storage, clinical pharmacy services, drug information, investigational drug services; assists in managing academic and educational programs for pharmacy students, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy residents; coordinates pharmacy education for campus pharmacy staff.

Accountabilities

  • Operations: Oversee and manage inpatient pharmacy operations including drug distribution, IV services, Central pharmacy and pharmacy satellites. 20%
  • Pharmacy Clinical Services and Drug Use Policy: Oversee and manage all clinical pharmacy services, drug information, investigational drug services and other clinical pharmacy programs; supervises development and implementation of drug use policies and provides feedback to Medical Staff on effectiveness of these programs; supports Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other committees of the Medical Staff regarding Pharmacy Services as needed. 15%
  • Clinical Outcomes and Quality Management: Develop and manage programs to improve patient clinical quality and outcomes involving pharmacy services for both inpatients and outpatients.\u00A0 Develop appropriate performance and outcomes measures to assure quality and improve pharmacy performance. 15%
  • Pharmacy Administration: Provide oversight and supervision to all inpatient pharmacy staff.\u00A0 Develop and communicate the pharmacy mission/vision and strategic plan to appropriate staff.\u00A0 Maintain compliance with all required regulatory agencies including State Board of Pharmacy, DHEC, CMS and Joint Commission.\u00A0 Emulate the GHS and campus Standards of Behavior with all direct and indirect reports, utilize Performance Improvement\u00A0 and Commitment to Excellence programs, conduct education and maintain required documentation.\u00A0 Serve as a mentor to all direct reports and provide guidance and leadership. 15%
  • Personnel and Human Resources: Oversee the hiring, orientation and training of new and existing employees.\u00A0 Maintain appropriate documentation for staff competency.\u00A0 Develop new training and education programs for existing staff.\u00A0 Create and maintain staff schedule, and assure proper processing of payroll.\u00A0 Ensure that all performance evaluations, CBTs, PPDs and licensees are current and up to date. 15%
  • Academics/Students: Develop and manage the academic and training program for pharmacy students and pharmacy interns for in-patient pharmacy services.\u00A0 Maintain close working relationship with Colleges of Pharmacy to provide contracted services.\u00A0\u00A0 10%
  • Assist the campus Administrative Team with development, management and maintenance of departmental budgets and financial operations of the department; Develop cost savings and cost avoidance programs to maintain financial stability of the pharmacy program. 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports..

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree - BS Pharmacy degree

5 years - Acute care hospital or system experience including 1 year of pharmacy management experience

In Lieu Of

In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, may be a graduate of an ACPE accredited US college of Pharmacy with a SC intern certificate pending initial licensure or have completed requirements for reciprocity pending board of pharmacy interview for licensure.\u00A0

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

RPH - REG PHARMACIST - RRPH

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

PharmD degree and /or MBA degree preferred

ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency (PGY1) or advanced practice residency (PGY2) preferred\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0

pharmacy business management experience preferred\u00A0\u00A0

\u00A0Advanced degree, MBA, MHA, PGY2 Hospital Administrative Residency - Preferred

Knowledgeable in management and operations aspects of hospital pharmacy practice

Basic computer skills

Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database)

Data entry

Mathematical skills

Effective at Data Conversion
