Purpose:
This role contributes to the overall success of the U.S. Chief Operating Officer and coordinates the development and administration of the Operational Resilience program for the Global Banking & Markets (GBM) division in the Combined U.S. Operations (CUSO) for the Bank of Nova Scotia. This role is intended to help strengthen resiliency across the U.S. footprint and reports to the Senior Manager, Business Continuity Management & Operational Resilience. This role will take the lead in ensuring that corporate and regulatory requirements are met, and that policies and procedures are developed and maintained in support of these requirements and is initially focused on the buildout and eventual administration of Operational Resilience but will also support business continuity management, as required.
What You'll Do:
Operational Resilience Responsibilities
  • Lead Operational Resilience planning sessions and self-assessments to determine GBM critical business services and related support services, impact tolerances and process mapping.
  • Coordinate the vulnerability assessments and related remediation efforts.
  • Coordinate with GBM Operational Resilience and Global Operational Resilience for a consistent approach to program development across the enterprise.
  • Develops and prepares plans to prevent, adapt, respond to, recover, and learn from operational disruptions in collaboration with multiple stakeholders (Plan Owners/Approvers, Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM), Internal Controls, Risk etc.).
  • Prepare Operational Resilience related materials for exercises, committees, and working groups.
  • Support annual internal and external reviews/examinations (e.g., Audit/Risk/Regulators/External Consultants) and help remediate any findings/issues on a timely basis.
  • Understand how the bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered while maturing the Operational Resilience program.
  • Work with Business Continuity Plan Owners to facilitate timely Operational Resilience-related deliverables.
  • Support Business Continuity Management as needed.

Overall Responsibilities
  • Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with significant exposure to senior management across the Bank.
  • Produces monthly Ops. Res. KPI/ KRI metrics reporting for management oversight.
  • Maintain appropriate industry credentials and associated continuing education requirements.
  • Participate in industry (e.g., SIFMA) forums to gather insights and implement best-practices.
  • Continually leverage technology to automate and streamline labor intensive processes.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's values, Code of Conduct and Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligation with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What You'll Bring:
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or comparable
  • Effective communication, research, and analytical background
  • 3-5 years of experience in a related risk/control function (ideally in Operational Resilience or Business Continuity Management but open to individuals who are quick learners and have a risk/control mindset).
