Description
The Manager of Youth Advocacy-Middle School (MYAMS), as part of the BUILD's Prevention team will work in partnership with the Director of Prevention Services (DPP) to develop and implement BUILD's in-school and after-school community intervention and support programming for Middle School youths who have behavioral challenges or may be impacted by community violence.
The MYAMS will ensure quality programming is operating across sites and will be responsible for the evaluation and tracking of program data.
The MYAMS reports directly to the Director of Prevention Program (DPP).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide oversight and management of Middle School programs where Youth Advocates are assigned.
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to Middle school Youth advocates.
- Develop and implement prevention program services across schools within an assigned area.
- Serve as the main contact and liaison to field referrals from community and school administration to appropriate BUILD services and programs.
- Work collaboratively with school administration, partner organizations, parents and school councils to provide BUILD programs and services.
- Support training and development of program staff so they can appropriately engage with the at-risk population.
- Work collaboratively with program staff to plan program activities.
- Stay current with new trends, program content and delivery methods locally and nationally related to after school programming.
- Works collaboratively with program staff to manage youth receiving services.
- Participate in civic engagement activities that advance the mission of BUILD, Inc.
- Responsible for keeping Director of Prevention Services abreast of progress, changes and challenges in programming and making commendations for the needs of the program.
- Maintain program materials and ensure they are organized and stocked appropriately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Youth Development
- Ensures program staff provide in-school and after-school tutoring and mentoring services.
- Ensures the program provides age-appropriate workshops related to life skills, health, and development awareness.
- Supports program staff in the development and maintenance of a positive mentor/ mentee relationship.
Documentation and Competencies
- Works collaboratively with program staff to recruit and retain youth participants at each site.
- Ensures the proper attendance, data collection and record retention are maintained in approved agency databases.
- Manages the annual collection of data (baseline, year-end (academic), interpersonal, and pro-social behaviors).
- Manages data and statistics to ensure grant compliance.
Requirements
- Highly organized to set priorities, develop a work schedule, and monitor progress towards goals.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization.
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills are required, as well as effective resource management (material and staff)
- Proven background working collaboratively with groups of diverse backgrounds and experience
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including select weekends and events.
- Ability to apply strategic and creative thinking, while being persistent, motivated, and energetic, along with the ability to work in a detail-oriented fashion.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in social work, youth development or related field required.
- A minimum of 5 years of management experience in a youth or social services program
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in youth development.
- Experience with youth and/or public program facilitation and management required.
- Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check.
- Must have a valid Driver's License, access to reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally.
- Must be willing and able to become an approved driver of BUILD vehicles.
- Proficient in Windows and Excel required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift up 15 pounds at times.?
- As of October 15, 2021, all BUILD employees are required to submit proof of full vaccination status.
- Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccine.
