Position: Manager of Nutritional Health Services
Salary: $46,000 - $52,000 annually
(Starting salary depends on education, licensure, and years of experience)
Job Type: Full Time Salaried Exempt
Purpose:
The Manger of Nutritional Health Services works under the direction of the Senior Manager of Environment of Care. This position is responsible for the supervision of kitchen staff and for the delivery of all kitchen functions and dietary requirements in compliance with contract, licensing, funding body, and accreditation requirements. This position will collaborate heavily with the Seed to Plate Manager. The NHS Manager is expected to promote a positive culture through actions and attitude.
Essential Responsibilities
Delegate authority and assign responsibilities and work schedules to department staff. Provide hands-on leadership to the food service team.
• Supervises a food service staff of up to 20.
• Supervises all food preparation and food services to clients and staff.
• Purchases all food and non-food items required for operation (Harvester's, commodities, and donated food/non-food items, Seed to Plate)
• Develops menus with Seed to Plate Manager and special diets with dietician/clinician as needed.
• Continually assesses the quality of all food preparation and presentation and makes changes as necessary.
• Coordinates staff coverage in case of planned or unplanned absences.
• Performs food preparation and related functions in absences of other staff.
• Prepares food for catered events requested by appropriate management.
• Tracks and manages expenses for all food services related activities.
• Manages staff regular and overtime in relation to budget.
• Trains and orients new employees.
• Continually monitors the safety of the department and ensures that all employees are following proper safety protocol and using personal protective equipment when necessary.
• Assist with developing and managing the departmental budget, including capital expenditures appropriate to the food service department.
• Interview, hire, develop, and evaluate department staff.
• Prepare and deliver management reports as needed.
• Comply with all policies and procedures established by Cornerstones of Care and department management.
• Regularly evaluates and documents checking equipment for proper functioning and temperature regulation.
• Schedules health department inspections within required time frames.
• Completes all requisites and paperwork as required by Cornerstones of Care and the State School Breakfast and Lunch Program as administered by the States of KS/MO.
• Records and tracks all free, reduced, and full price meals within the constraints of confidentiality of the program.
• Maintains all records required by the State and maintains accurate files to satisfy audits.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Must obtain a Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas food handler's certification.
- Understand and adhere to all laws and regulations, sanitation and health department
- regulations for safe handling of food and any other federal, state, and/or local regulations.
- Must be able to work any necessary hours, including late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Understand USDA, DESE, and KSDE school lunch program requirements.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
REQUIRED SKILLS OR ABILITIES
- Accurately perform all assigned job duties in a high-volume, fast-paced environment under
- frequent time pressures.
- Read, write, and understand complex instructions and reports.
- Ability to manage budgets.
- Ability to manage a multi-site food service department.
- Strong supervisory and team building skills.
Minimum Requirements
Education Level: High School Diploma. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in social services, child development, or criminal justice.
Years of Experience: 3 to 5 years working with children.
In addition to the above requirements, incumbent must:
- Complete Sanctuary training in a timely manner;
- Have a valid driver's license and proof of current vehicle insurance;
- Follow all agency policies;
- Be able to pass State Abuse, Neglect and criminal background checks;
- Be able to carry out the essential functions of the position with, or without, accommodation.

- Ability to perform a range of physical motions including, but not limited to:
- Lifting and carrying up to 15 lbs
