Description
Job Overview:Manager of Museum Programs is responsible for developing, managing and teaching a robust and fun suite of programs for children from Pre K to 3rd grade and their caregivers in the Bronx community at the Museum's site and through ongoing visits to partner schools and community-based organizations. Manager of Museum Programs will manage on-site field trips, participation in larger public events, and will manage floor staff at the Museum. This position will be an integral part of the management team and is responsible for developing new and existing programs.

About the Job: Manager of Museum Programs is within the Education & Programs department and encompasses program classroom instruction and supervision, program management for onsite and offsite programming, educational content creation and administrative tasks and is responsible for the following, but not limited to:
  1. Classroom Instruction & Supervising
  • Provides museum standard educational instruction for Pre-K to 3rd grade students at Bronx Public Schools and at several other sites throughout the year with a team of Museum guides and teaching artists
  • In partnership with Director of School Programs and Education:
  • Conceptualizes, plans, executes, and assesses education programs that build on existing Museum Programs in schools and Hands-on experiences at various Bronx community events
  • Create curriculum for each program
  • Ensuring lesson plans are in place for each program
  • Staying up-to-date with current Department of Education standards and guidelines
  • Ensuring programming has a focus on the environmental make-up of the Bronx

2. Program Management
  • Recruits, orients, and maintains relationships with schools for in-school school programs during the school year and with community partners during festival season
  • Coordinates with each school to schedule and deliver the following: Introductory meetings, Teacher Training Sessions, bi-weekly or monthly classroom visits, field trips, tours, educational program activities, exit interviews and testimonials
  • Warmly greet and welcome young children and their families, whether in our building, over the phone, or at one of our outreach events
  • Collaborate with Director of School Programs and Education and Director of Public Engagement and Outreach to serve as a representative of the Bronx Children's Museum to outside community partners through various points of contact including over the phone, on-site, and off-site at outreach events
  • Orders, collects, transports, distributes and arranges for storage of fun and high quality educational program materials to each school or program
  • Maintains and completes school binder with for each school with profile documenting including introductory meetings, student registration, pre and post Assessments, testimonials, photo releases, monthly classroom visits, number of students and exit interviews, and attendance records
  • Documents programs via photos, testimonies, evaluations, assessments, and reports

3. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Ensures all branding requirements are followed and represent the museum's look and feel
  • Maintains online mailing list gathered from public events in database
  • Maintains programming calendar, both internal and external, throughout the year, including educator schedules
  • Creates reports for each program with assessment, photos, and testimonials
  • Participates in meetings and engages in strategic discussions on ways to move off-site programs to the Museum facility that will house fine arts programs and exhibits
  • Contribute programming content for marketing purposes
  • Handles all administrative responsibilities and deliverables associated with the position in an orderly and timely fashion, advising on progress through daily reports to the Director of School Programs & Education.

4. On-site Museum Responsibilities
  • Recruits, schedules trainings and supervises Museum Guides and Program Coordinators
  • Assists in the co-development of existing programs/activities Museum programming and assists in the development of expanding educational programs
  • Coordinate on-site field trips with school administrators/teachers and Museum staff to ensure enjoyable experience for visit duration
  • Help orient in-person visitors to the Museum space, including wayfinding and relaying information about ticketing, programming, and events
  • Oversee Museum Guides and Program Coordinators on the floor on a daily basis during public open days
  • Manage Museum Guides and Program Coordinator schedules, post on Paylocity and manage and approve timecards for floor staff on Paylocity
  • Light exhibit maintenance as needed, including cleaning props and restocking materials

Requirements
Qualifications/Competencies: Manager of Museum Programs must possess and maintain the following qualifications and competencies.
  • Knowledge: Have prior experience working with young children in formal or informal education settings, ideally for a minimum of three years. Have a background or strong interest in STEAM and an education degree in education, the arts, or a related field
  • Physical Abilities: Must be comfortable moving around alot for this busy, fast paced position; ability to stand and/or patrol for long periods; able to lift 50 lbs
  • Program Management: Proven demonstrated success in program management for all Museum programming, including festivals, school visits, bus visits, museum classes, etc.; ability to manage and provide clear directions to staff for each program; ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and strong attention to detail; ability to design a high level of lesson plans.
  • Leadership Ability: Act as a respected and trusted member of the management team, lead with integrity and mutual respect, motivate, and inspire trust and confidence with staff, children, schools and the community the Museum serves.
  • Decision Making: Ability to perform with discretion and integrity; analytical skills, creative problem solving, and ability to make and implement decisions quickly and soundly.
  • Communications: Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, public speaking and presentation skills. Bilingual (Spanish preferred).

  • Work Environment & Logistics: Ability to work in a virtual office environment, travel to the Bronx and surrounding NYC boroughs for meetings and special events; ability to oversee programs as scheduled including during weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed and transport of necessary materials for programming.
