Job description

Position Overview

The Manager ofFinancial Reporting and Technical Accounting has primary responsibility for Red Robin Gourmet Burgers’ (RRGB) quarterly and annual SEC financial filings, Technical Accounting research and analysis, financial policy development and ownership of select month end close activities, including internal Financial Reporting package and accounting for stock-based compensation and self-insurance. This role provides guidance and reviews the activities of direct report(s) and ensures strong internal controls while driving process improvements. This role is expected to have strong Technical Accounting skills and ability to research and apply accounting guidance to new or existing transactions executed by the Company and will take part in special projects. The position reports to the Assistant Controller.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Financial Reporting team to ensure monthly tasks and deadlines are met
  • Lead process to prepare, review and file all SEC financial filings, including preparation and/or review of external financial statements and supplemental schedules and analysis to support each SEC-related filing, its related footnotes, management’s discussion and analysis and other required disclosures; lead Disclosure Committee process
  • Primary responsibility for monitoring and evaluating impact of emerging accounting, Reporting and disclosure standards promulgated by the FASB and SEC. Evaluate and prepare memorandums regarding the impact of emerging standards on the financial information for presentation to the accounting organization and senior management, as appropriate
  • Perform Technical Accounting research and analysis as required including analysis, research, and conclusions on complex accounting issues and prepare memorandums regarding Company position on accounting treatment
  • Assist with maintaining the overall compliance with internal accounting policies as well as ensuring transactions are accounted for in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations
  • Coordinate and assist in the gathering of information generated by other departments for the preparation of the SEC filings and earnings releases
  • Coordinate, assist and respond to the external auditors in their reviews of the quarterly financial statements and year-end audits
  • Act as project manager/lead to develop and maintain RRGB Finance policies and procedures; collaborate with other Finance & Accounting teams as needed
  • Coordinate the review and distribution of internal monthly financial packages
  • Calculation of stock compensation expense and earnings per share
  • Review period close journal entries and account reconciliations related to stockholder’s equity, stock-based compensation, treasury, self-insurance and other areas that may be assigned; explain variances and trends
  • Prepare and/or review quarterly debt covenant compliance calculations
  • Coordinate and/or prepare periodic audit committee reporting materials
  • Facilitate the period close process including period, quarterly, and annual flux analyses
  • Preparation of process narratives, control certifications, and tests of effectiveness in assigned areas
  • Prepare and review ad hoc analyses in reporting software as needed.
  • Supervise and develop the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst
  • Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Exceptional accounting principles knowledge with the initiative to remain current on accounting and other regulatory changes
  • Excellent documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis
  • Organized and extremely detail-oriented; ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams
  • Strong Technical Accounting skills and ability to apply to accounting issues that arise.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance with active CPA designation required
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience, preferably with a Big 4 or mid tier public accounting firm, and in a public company Financial Reporting function
  • Experience preparing or reviewing SEC filings required; experience with internal/external financial statement preparation, month end close, general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations and variance analysis a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and SEC regulations S-X and S-K, and G
  • Experience accounting for stock based compensation required; Equity Edge software knowledge a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience researching and drafting Technical Accounting memos
  • Advanced competency in Excel and proficient with other Microsoft Office suite products (e.g., One Note, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using ERP and SEC Reporting software a plus including Workiva, Oracle and Blackline
  • Experience in restaurant and/or retail industries a plus

Compensation Range: $110,600.00 - $152,075.00
