As the Manager of Disability Benefits, you will lead the operation and administration of Publix's Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) Plans, manage the processes and services for associates, and collaborate with Publix Human Resources, Payroll, and IT departments which will include:
- You will have the opportunity to lead a team of Disability Plan Specialists and manage, develop, and improve processes to ensure compliant plan administration and timely claims determinations.
- You will inspire each team member you work with to do the right thing, gaining buy in, and empowering the team to be accountable.
- You will lead and participate in strategic level projects and benefits-critical initiatives relating to the STD and LTD plans' systems and technology enhancements and processes resulting from such projects.
- You and your team will resolve complex issues and maintain operational excellence; ensure compliance with applicable government regulations and plan provisions, contractual provisions and performance guarantees between the disability vendor and Publix.
This role is hybrid. In Publix's corporate offices, we value in-person interactions, like those our store associates have with customers. Many of Publix's corporate offices offer work from home up to two days a week. Each business area implements their policy differently and should be discussed during interviews.
Job Description: Your role will include the following, but not limited to:
- Lead the operation and administration of STD and LTD plans, including certificates of coverage, Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) contracts and regulatory requirements including financial internal controls.
- Manage the Disability Benefits team to ensure premier service is delivered to all associates.
- Mentor and develop associates, leading talent management efforts and ensuring associates understand our business area strategy as well as Publix's strategy.
- Onboard, provide direction, guidance, mentoring and training to the Disability Team in the performance of their position responsibilities.
- Research, review, and interpret rules and regulations under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Internal Revenue Code (IRC), IRC Section 125, Department of Labor (DOL) and Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
- Utilize strong analytical and decision-making skills with a focus on producing results, solving problems, thinking creatively and handling complex situations efficiently.
