Job Summary and Qualifications

The Nurse Manager organizes and manages patient care functions on an ongoing basis. The individual works to enhance patient outcomes through management of human resources, staff education and monitoring of processes for continuous improvement. The Nurse Manager is a role model for excellence in quality care, customer satisfaction and quality improvement and interacts with medical staff on an informal and formal basis for the purpose of improving patient outcomes. The Nurse Manager demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient. The Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the planning, directing and provision of nursing care to patients in accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act, physician’s orders, recognized nursing techniques, policies, procedures, established standards and administrative policies.

  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the performance of assessment, reassessment, development and implementation of the patient’s care in accordance with the established standards.
  • Assesses patients for fall or injury risk and implements appropriate safety precautions. Ensures staff is compliant with Fall Prevention Protocol.
  • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect to physician(s), Department Director and/or appropriate agency.
  • Utilizes and integrates all available data in determining patient care needs. 
  • Interprets data to determine when patient is at acute risk and takes appropriate measures including notifying physician.
  • Continuously prioritizes patient needs and nursing problems based on assessment/reassessment findings.
  • Delegates tasks to personnel based on skill level, patient care needs, policy and ability to provide required supervision.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the specific patient population of the ICU.
  • Evaluates and documents patient’s response to the Plan of Care, communicates to members of the health care team and implements necessary changes to care. Review staff documentation for appropriateness and provide feed back as necessary.
  • Performs and documents diagnostic and therapeutic procedures required by patients consistent with scientific principles, hospital and department policies, patient age and or developmental needs. 
  • Evaluates performance of staff members.
  • Collaborates with other health care team members, patient/family/SO in developing and updating the plan of care.
  • Ensures continuity of care through precise and consistent sharing of patient information with other departments and staff on internal and external patient transfers.
  • Assesses, collaborates, and coordinates the patient’s discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge with other members of the health care team and patient/family.
  • Demonstrates awareness of and respect for the patient/family/SO needs in relation to the following: confidentiality, privacy, security, complaint resolution, and cultural and spiritual needs. 
  • Serves as an advocate for patients/family/SO regarding decisions affecting the Plan of Care.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care by assisting with the development of PI indicators, collecting data, monitoring ongoing PI status and discussion of PI findings in staff meetings and makes recommendations for action plans.
  • Performs quality control monitoring.
  • Reports and documents any unusual patient or administrative occurrence that may have an effect on the patient’s and staff member’s well being.
  • Identifies and documents patient/family/SO education needs in collaboration with other disciplines and implements initial and on-going education relevant to these needs. 
  • Assures that all documents placed in patient records are accurately identified with correct patient information.
  • Complies with all hospital and department policies regarding documentation requirements. Example: approved abbreviations, forms, computer access, authentication of medical record entries with date, time and signature, etc.
  • Discusses patient care and plans for implementation through involvement in physician rounds. Sets expectations for staff interaction and rounds with physician.

What qualifications you will need:
  • RN with current state licensure; BSN preferred or currently enrolled in BSN program

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
