JOB PURPOSE:  To provide and manage the receipt and distribution of direct material within the plant, shipment of miscellaneous and interplant material, management of cribs and implementation of cost effective material handling plans.  Logistics management is responsible for developing and overseeing proper material flow utilizing CPS guidelines/principles.  This includes communicating with the transportation group and carriers to optimize external material flow.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Direct Reports include Logistics Engineers, Logistics Analysts, and Distribution Production Managers.

Primary responsibilities include optimizing transportation, providing on-site material logistics functions, managing 3PL’s and driving improvements in point of use availability.

Distribution - Production, indirect and miscellaneous material (including metallic scrap) is moved within the plan and surrounding areas by means of the intra plant vehicles. Incumbent manages indirect inventory levels and the daily operations in the major tools and supplies disbursement and tool grinding cribs. Also responsible for logistics services contracts including the daily operational activities of supporting deconsolidation centers, logistics service centers, and inbound logistics centers. Responsible for the scheduling of supplier deliveries by common carrier and administration of returnable container programs.  Coordination of inbound material control, carrier collaboration, establishing milk runs, coordinating third party logistics services, plant site material logistics, and managing supermarkets and kitting processes.  Responsible for optimizing material flow throughout the plant site, ensuring availability of needed resources, to include operating personnel and material handling equipment, always working to eliminate traffic bottlenecks.

Logistics Planning - Incumbent provides management for the development and implementation of cost-effective material handling plans, including purchased logistics services, and material handling equipment.  This involves providing tactical plans, machines and equipment, and multiple shift operation and sets general policy including schedules to be followed on all three shifts, servicing production area needs in off shift hours.  Supervises daily activities of staff by coaching, delegating, monitoring progress, and providing direction and technical support.  Plans for future material handling needs, equipment, and manpower requirements and prepares operating budget for assigned areas.  Works closely with Purchasing, Requirements, Manufacturing, Factory Engineering, Traffic, suppliers, and other areas to ensure customer needs are met utilizing least total cost alternatives.  Challenge is to implement cost effective projects within acceptable parameters for schedule, budget, cost reduction and return on investment while providing uninterrupted, quality service to customers.

The position manages a work unit of management, salaried, and hourly employees where planning, scheduling monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required.  The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

Basic Qualifications:

• College or university degree, preferably in Supply Chain and/or Logistics Management or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience AND 6 years of progressively responsible supply chain job experience 
• Knowledge and understanding of 6 Sigma Project Management principles 
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills 
  Excellent teamwork and leadership skills 
• Develop and deploy creative / original solutions to complex problems 
• Solid logistics and manufacturing knowledge 

Top Candidates will also have:

• Familiar with company policies and procedures with a strong department background
• Experience in Supply Chain / Logistics or Transportation Management 
• APICS CPIM or CSPC National Certification
• Knowledge of material handling equipment 
• Material distribution experience 
• Solid product knowledge 
• Able to build strong relationships with various stakeholders.
• Working understanding of the various materials systems and how they interrelate
• Capable of working and communicating with a variety of company (all levels) and supplier personnel
