Summary:

The National Field Response (NFR) team takes the ASPCA's commitment to animals to the very doorsteps where help is needed. The team travels from coast to coast responding to requests from law enforcement and animal welfare professionals with the primary goal of removing animals from crisis situations created by natural disasters, animal abuse, hoarding or neglect.

The Fleet and Transport Manager works under the direction of the Director of Field Logistics, Fleet and Safety. The primary responsibility will be to manage the transport Fleet and perform transport of animals or supplies during field operations or relocation efforts. Additional responsibilities will include oversight of personnel at temporary operation sites and on transports. The Fleet and Transport Manager will also assist with warehouse responsibilities include assisting with regular inventory of all supplies and equipment, organizing supplies and equipment, and shipping and receiving. The Manager will also be responsible for assisting with all logistics needs including transport of animals or supplies and on the ground logistics and safety during field operations.

A Class A Commercial Driver’s License is required, or the ability to obtain one within three months of hire. This individual in this role will be required to follow all proper road safety rules, Department of Transportation requirements, and ASPCA transport guidelines.

The person in this role must be based in the Greater St. Louis metro area, or willing to relocate to the Greater St. Louis metro area within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Driving and Transport (40%):

  • Conduct safe, humane and cost-effective transport of animals, equipment and supplies, including handling and moving various animals, sometimes in stressful situations. There may also be situations where transports take place during extreme weather events
  • Abide by transport protocols including tracking route mileage, hours, and electronic logging
  • Performing readiness checks on all vehicles, trailers, boats and other National Filed Response equipment
  • Determine appropriate routes for safe transport of animals
  • Understand and abide by Department of Transportation (DOT) inter-state driving laws
  • Follow all proper road safety rules, DOT requirements, and ASPCA transport guidelines at all times
  • Load supplies for transports and field operations

Warehouse Operations (30%):

  • Work with the Director and other Managers in all operational aspects of the NFR Warehouse. This includes management of on-sight temporary personnel as needed
  • Oversee management of all supplies and equipment in/at NFR warehouse as well as set up, demob, logistics and safety on temporary operations
  • Load supplies as needed for transports and field operations
  • Utilize warehouse management system to track overall inventory, manage purchase of supplies and generate supply lists for field or temporary shelter operations

Administration (30%):

  • Assist with field operations as needed including but not limited to logistical support, safety, intake, shelter set up and breakdown and management of personnel at an operation or on a transport
  • Use the Workday system to complete expense reports and entering time
  • Complete necessary driver information for CDL when doing transports
  • Create protocols and Standard Operating Procedures under the direction of the Logistics Director
  • Support Logistics Director as needed

Additional Information:

  • General work hours will be 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday . Please note that there could be a need to work after hours and possible weekends as needed.
  • Frequent travel (up to 50%) will be required

Compensation & Benefits:

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.

The target hiring range for this role is $65,000 - $70,000 annually.

Qualifications:

Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, Ability to push, pull and lift equipment and crates, Ability to use stairs and a ladder and access supplies located on a high shelf, Ability to work outside of business hours and weekends as necessary, Able to maneuver various size trailers into tight spaces, rough terrain, and challenging conditions, Excellent communication skills required, Excellent computer and smartphone skills including proficiency in use of Outlook Mail, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Texting, Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail, Frequent travel required, up to 50%, Interest and passion for animal welfare, Knowledge and use of techniques for safe loading and Transport of animals and supplies, Knowledge of warehouse management systems, radio repeaters, and satellite systems is desirable, Mechanical acumen strongly preferred, Must be able and willing to wear personal protective equipment, Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds, Must be a self-guided, and highly motivated individual; ability to work with minimal supervision, Must have a Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within the first 3 months of hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history. As part of the requirements of this role, must also pass a Department of Transportation Medical Exam and required Drug and Alcohol testing., Use of (GPS) Navigation Systems, Use of two way radio equipment, Working knowledge of Basic Incident Command Structure or equivalent command system and completion of ICS/IS courses and the ASPCA Webinar series within 30 days of hiring

Education and Work Experience:

High School Diploma (Required)

1-year experience in animal handing preferred, or willingness to complete an animal handling course within 30 days of hire., 1-year experience in emergency response situations preferred, College or technical training desired
