What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role will lead the engineering activities at the Packaging - Drug Product organization in the night 12-hour shift structure. Responsible for supervising, hiring, and developing staff. Ensuring operations uptime and activities are completed on time while maintaining safety, quality, and financial objectives.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for Work Orders and preventive maintenance activities execution and compliance following all safety guidelines.

  • Ensure the appropriate level of training for all levels of the maintenance organization such as cGMP’s, technical, SOP’s, compliance training and maintain records for staff.

  • Technical development of automation and maintenance group following an existing training program to ensure the team has the knowledge and system access to fix equipment problems and perform maintenance activities.

  • Create individual development plans for personnel with clear objectives and milestones.

  • Ensure automation and maintenance personnel have the appropriate equipment to perform their tasks.

  • Facilitate and mentor direct reports in the correction of equipment-related problems.

  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis for critical issues, developing solutions to prevent recurrence.

  • Function as a technical expert on equipment or systems regarding troubleshooting operational issues.

  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems, including the following technologies: vision systems, serialization, controls (PLC, servo drives, etc), mechanical assemblies, motors, pneumatics and electro-mechanical integrations.

  • Communicate effectively the correction process of existing problems and support the implementation of preventive actions.

  • Coordinate all maintenance activities, New Product Introductions (NPI) implementations, CAPA’s, and any Engineering project requiring technical support.

  • Collaborate with Business Units (BU) and establish daily support priorities.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering team in the development and implementation of automation and maintenance improvement projects.

  • Ensure full process compliance in the area and lead low-level complexity automation and maintenance project improvements.

  • Familiarity with industry software development life cycle methodologies, 21 CFR Part 11, and GMP.

  • Develop and maintain maintenance metrics to support the benchmarking of site, global, and industry. Develop improvement strategies based on the benchmarking data.

  • Responsible for selection, training, evaluation, staff relations, mentoring, and development of staff.

  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate the work of a staff of maintenance technicians & engineers.

  • Oversee the development, revision, review, and approval of Standard Operating Procedures/Job Plans that are owned by the maintenance department.

  • Interacts with senior external personnel often requiring coordination between organizations.

  • Collaborate with Compliance and Quality Assurance Departments to align maintenance strategies with compliance commitments. Support minor deviation investigations and be the point of contact during compliance inspections.

  • Ensure compliance with ENG Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Support non-standard shift operations that may include first, second, third, 12-hour, and/or weekend shifts, as per business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree in Engineering

OR

Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of combined Engineering, Process Development and/or Manufacturing support experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5 of combined Engineering, Process Development and/or Manufacturing support experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Beyond that, additional preferred qualifications are:

  • Educational background in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.

  • Experience directly managing people with strong leadership skills.

  • Combined maintenance and automation experience.

  • Automation Vision systems, serialization, and control system (PLC) experience.

  • Rockwell automation systems experience or knowledge.

  • Understanding of regulatory trends in the industry. Some direct experience with the FDA or equivalent regulatory body.

  • Lean Six Sigma experience and process improvement mentality.

  • Experience managing budget with a financial business acumen.
