In the State of Hawai’i, TerraForm owns and operates the Kahuku Wind Farm (Oahu), Kaheawa Wind 1 & 2, and Kaheawa Wind 2 BESS (Maui). Our Hawai’i assets generate enough energy to power over 35,000 households annually and we are proud to operate safely and responsibly with our local operations staff.
The Manager, Asset Development will be primarily responsible for the development of wind, solar, and storage assets with a focus on optimization and redevelopment of the Platform company’s existing assets in the HI market. We anticipate this role to be primarily focused on the HI market, however the candidate will be expected to support other development activities in the mainland US from time to time based on overall workload. This role offers significant exposure to project development across technologies and the ability to quickly take on increasing levels of responsibility within a mature Platform.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day development of complex renewable energy projects throughout their lifecycle, up to construction hand-off
- Provide owners representation at meetings with key stakeholders, public officials, and other parties
- Support development of bid packages in response to offtake RFPs
- Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of subject matter experts and consultants, and be accountable for key development processes and tasks
- Establish and manage project budgets, schedules, and costing throughout the project lifecycle
- Track project risks throughout the development cycle, provide risk assessments and mitigations
- Support preparation of materials needed by various internal functions (operations, environmental, commercial, capital markets, construction, etc.) to facilitate permitting, offtake, financing, and construction
- Participate in project acquisition due diligence processes
- Participate in preparing and presenting business cases for projects that are selected for investment and support project financing
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of the Hawai’i market is required
- 3 – 7 years of experience developing or supporting the development of renewable energy and/or storage projects, or other infrastructure projects of similar complexity
- Ability to travel to project locations (predominantly Oahu and Maui) and meetings within HI on an as-needed basis, and to the US headquarters (New York, NY), or other US mainland project sites, occasionally
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with stakeholders and officials
- Strong commercial, analytical, organizational, project management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage and support multiple projects simultaneously
- Willingness to learn and grow new areas of expertise
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, GIS (a plus)
- Demonstrate alignment with corporate values and platform strategy, as well as health, safety and environment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in a relevant discipline
- Renewable energy project development experience is a strong plus, but not required, and we welcome candidates from different backgrounds that can offer relevant skills and capabilities
- Given the nature of the role, strong preference will be given to candidates based locally in the HI market.
Salary: $140,000 - $160,000
