Under general direction of nursing leadership, the Manager Anesthesia RN position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing of the operations and staff of the respective department. This position has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating nursing care to ensure optimal patient health outcomes in their respective department. This position links nursing leadership with nursing care through the application of organizational and nursing service policies, procedures, and care delivery model.
The Manager Anesthesia RN uses the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements to guide leadership and practice.
The Manager Anesthesia RN attains knowledge and competence reflective of current nursing practice; promotes innovation and futuristic thinking by incorporating evidence based practice and research findings.
- Directs, organizes and supervises work related to the administration of anesthesia by staff CRNA’s. Ensures adequate assemblage of anesthesia agents, equipment, supplies and materials for the smooth operation of the anesthesiology department. The CRNA Manager will collaborate with the Director of the Anesthesia Services to assure quality and safety of anesthesia delivery and patient recovery and will execute the general responsibility common to all leadership positions. Provides staff with ongoing education regarding proper use of anesthesia equipment, supplies and medications.
- Evaluates disciplines and terminates CRNA’s and Anesthesia Technicians as appropriate.
- Prepares reports, payroll records, statistical information, etc. for the Anesthesiology department.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops working budget for the department and operates within that budget.
Coordinates/attends managerial, committee, multidisciplinary and department meetings as required to provide good employee relations and a smooth operating department. Performs the duties of a CRNA, as workload requires.
Prepares daily schedules, call schedules, and grants time off for vacation and/or education. Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the Department.
Takes action to resolve problems and improve patient care as indicated by quality assurance monitoring.
Evaluates documents, and reports effectiveness of action taken to resolve problems or improve patient care.
Oversees clinical orientation of staff, evaluates clinical expertise of staff, and assures competencies are documented.
Performs annual performance appraisals for department staff.
Coordinates the monthly department meeting, prepares agenda, records and files minutes in conjunction with the Medical Director. Conducts chart reviews per Joint Commission requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Masters Degree- Knowledge of anesthesia as normally acquired through completion of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia culminating in certification and licensure in the State of Michigan. Incumbent is grandfathered under previous education requirement for a bachelor's degree.
ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support- Within 12 months of hire or transfer
BLS- Basic Life Support- Within 3 months of hire or transfer
CRNA-Certified RN Anesthetist
NBCRNA-National Board CRNA
NBC-Nursing Specialty Certification- Specialty Nursing Certification or Advanced Nurse Certification preferred within 3 years of hire or transfer to position.
RN-Registered Nurse
