GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Clinical Documentation Manager is a Registered Nurse with a high level of clinical proficiency necessary for the oversight of the Clinical Documentation team of registered nurses. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, physicians, nurse practitioners, PA's, and the department managers for Revenue Integrity, Coding and Data Quality, Case Management and Health Information Management. Collaborates extensively with other members of the health care team to provide data and solution development processes. The Clinical Documentation Improvement Manager is involved in the direction and education of all phases of the Clinical Documentation process and will be held accountable to work in a collegial manner with physicians, staff, and consultants. Assists and oversees ongoing Clinical Documentation Improvement program education for new staff. Serves as a resource on DRG issues and acts as a subject matter expert for all Clinical Documentation issues. Participates on departmental and hospital committees and taskforces as assigned. Under the direction of the CDI Director, the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Manager is responsible for managing, coordinating and performing day-to-day operations to include personnel management, education, training, productivity, work assignments, quality reviews, and report management for the Clinical Documentation Improvement program. Facilitates and promotes standardization across the enterprise and ensures alignment of high quality documentation that supports a compliant and accurate representation of the clinical care provided to patients. Acts as a liaison for hospital/medical staff in all areas related to Clinical Documentation Improvement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategizes implements, directs and evaluates the overall services and functions of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program across the Network. (35%)
  • Manages CDI staff across the Network. Assists in hiring of new staff and development of new staff to expert level of practice. Directs CDI preceptors for training. Oversees and manages internal audits and ensures that education is provided to the CDS staff as needed. Assists with Performance Evaluations. Assists with development and administration of Performance Improvement Plans for individual staff as needed. (35%)
  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting service delivery and acts as a liaison with internal and external facilities/agencies such as IT, software vendors, and facilities. (10%)
  • Functions as liaison and works collaboratively with Coding, Quality, Compliance and UR leadership and all other stakeholders involved in Documentation Improvement. (10%)
  • Collaborates with Director of CDI to develop, monitor and adhere to the annual budget at each facility across the Network. (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse license
  • 5-7 years nursing experience in an acute adult inpatient facility
  • 5-7 years Clinical Documentation Improvement experience
  • 1-3 years management experience
