Title: Mammography Technologist Lead
Description: Performs breast-imaging procedures to include screening and diagnostic mammography. Must have working knowledge of the Radiology Information System and PACS. This position requires full range body motion, including handling and lifting patients when necessary. Able to work evenings and Saturdays as required. Serves as a Mammography Technologist Lead, assisting with the oversight of the Mammography PRN staff.

Primary Functions:
1. Assists the Women Preventative Health Service Coordinator in overseeing daily Mammography Technologist activities.
2. Provides training to Mammography Technologists.
- Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge, principles and practices of radiological, mammography techniques, breast structures, anatomy, composition and pathology.
- Demonstrated ability to perform Quality control/Assurance functions required for mammography as specified by State of Illinois and Mammography Quality Standards Act.
- Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient's conditions essential for successful completion of procedures.
- Correlates patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner. Performs breast imaging procedures to include screening, push-back views, and diagnostic mammography.
- Able to perform Bone Mass Densitometry (BMD).
- Selects and operates breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results. Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrated anatomic area of interest respecting patient's ability and comfort.
- Evaluates mammograms (or other breast images) for technical quality. Assures proper identification is recorded on film and x-ray jacket.
- Ensures room and supplies are ready. Establishes and ensures aseptic technique as necessary.
- Provides patient education. Understands methods and is capable of assisting with breast inspection or palpation. Encourages and instructs patients on monthly self breast exams. Provides patient teaching regarding osteoporosis during BMD study. Prepares patient for procedure providing instructions/education to obtain desired results. Gains cooperation of and minimizes anxiety of patient.
- Assists in maintaining medical and departmental records respecting confidentiality and departmental protocol.
- Participates in the departmental Q.I. program including all daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual requirements of the American College of Radiology and federal standards as required by the Mammography Quality standards Act.
- Works effectively with the IBCCP team and other providers to coordinate patient care.
- Obtains all CEUs required for ARRT licensure.
- Maintains current CPR certification.
- Develops policies and procedures for the department.
- Follows established guidelines for use and/or disclosure of protected health information. Employees should report any breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules to the Privacy Officer immediately. Failure to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
- Familiarizes and complies with all VNA policies and procedures.
- Meets standards of behavior expectations.
- Follows established guidelines for use and/or disclosure of protected health information. Qualifications:
- AMA Approved program in Radiological Technology.
- Digital mammography and bone densitometry skills required.
- ARRT and iEMA licensure required.
- BLS certification and MRT license preferred.
- Two (2) years experience as a staff technologist.
- Mammography certification preferred.
- Computer skills required.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish/English as follows: Reading - Preferred. Written – Preferred. Speaking – Preferred.
