Certifications & Licenses:
- A valid license as a radiologic technologist issued by the NYSDOH and
- Post primary certification in mammography issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
- BLS preferred.
Mammography Technologists are healthcare professionals trained to perform mammographic imaging procedures, which are specialized X-ray examinations of the breast tissue. Here are the roles and responsibilities typically associated with a Mammography Technologist:
- Patient Interaction and Education:Greet and prepare patients for mammography procedures, explaining the process and addressing any questions or concerns they may have. Provide education to patients about the importance of mammography screening, breast health, and the procedure itself.
- Image Acquisition: Position patients appropriately and accurately for mammography imaging using specialized equipment. Adjust imaging parameters such as exposure settings to obtain high-quality images while minimizing radiation exposure to the patient.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate mammography equipment, including digital mammography units and other imaging devices, following established protocols and safety guidelines. Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on mammography equipment to ensure optimal performance and image quality.
- Image Analysis: Review mammographic images for technical quality, ensuring proper positioning and image clarity. Identify any abnormalities or artifacts that may affect image interpretation and communicate findings to the interpreting radiologist.
- Patient Safety and Comfort: Ensure patient safety throughout the mammography procedure, including proper radiation protection measures and positioning techniques. Address patient concerns and discomfort during the exam, providing support and reassurance as needed.
