DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
- Diagnostic Imaging teams at Samaritan Health Services use state-of-the-art imaging technology while providing health care teams with the information needed for a fast, accurate diagnosis.
- Imaging services include: X-Ray, Fluoroscopy, Bone Density, CT Scan, Digital Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET-CT Mobile, and Ultrasound services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Must provide radiographic examination within department and other areas of all body parts for diagnostic interpretation. Must exercise professional judgement in performance of procedures applying principles of radiation protection.
- Maintains patient records and files.
- Assumes responsibility for departmental quality assurance program.
- Pursues continuing education.
- Transfers patient to and from radiology.
- In the absence of a supervisor, can assume responsibility for the department.
- Rotates shifts as required.
- Performs ancillary duties as requested by supervisor.
- Follows policies and procedures as set up by SEARHC Administration.
- Assists in general hygiene of department and self.
- Should be able to work well in situations of stress.
- Must be willing and able to take call and report to work within 20 minutes (if CT/Xray+Mammo).
- Must maintain competency in licensed modality.
- Able and willing to perform other duties as assigned.
- Competent in teleradiology transmission.
- Assist with invasive procedures and knowledge of these procedures.
- Competent in sterile technique.
- Can perform the following:
- Quality control
- Screening
- Diagnostic
- Complete 5 CEU’s Mammography credits per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements.
- Performs 100 mammograms per year documented per ACR/FDA requirements.
Lead Technologist (If Applicable):
- Will work in conjunction with Imaging Manager and Director, supports development and achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
- Reviews, edits, corrects, and validates PACS to ensure accurate patient procedure image labeling.
- Maintain organized and productive workflow within the clinical area.
- Assign daily responsibilities for front line staff.
- Respond to staff concerns promptly.
- Works to identify and solve operational problems.
- Oversee new staff orientation.
- Serve as an expert resource for staff in clinical specialties as well as organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintain best practices to ensure optimization of imaging protocols.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS :
- Attends department/organizational meetings, in-services, and disaster drills.
- Willing to participate and serve on departmental, organizational, and community committees and teams
- Graduation from an accredited Radiography School
- 2 years’ experience Radiography
- 1 year experience Mammography
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certified Radiography and Mammography
- Must complete annual educational requirements for licenses/certifications in areas where you function, i.e, CT dose.
Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology used in standard radiographic and CT exams.
- Extensive knowledge of radiation physics and protection (ALARA).
- Extensive understanding and knowledge of CT (computed tomography).
- Considerable knowledge of digitized imaging and multiple computer systems.
- Skilled at independently performing radiographic and CT exams.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- Skilled in organizing and cleaning work areas and maintaining equipment in serviceable condition.
- Able to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with radiologists, providers, patients, computer technologists, and SEARHC staff.
- Able to perform multiple tasks in a small department.
- Able to learn new imaging exams as required by radiologists or providers.
