Job description

Position Summary: The Male Drug Testing Technician provides supervised Drug Testing to people involved with Montana’s Child and Family Services Department (CFSD). Drug testing is facilitated on site and in the community as requested by the Judge or Social Worker. The Drugs Screening Technician must have the ability to work in a fast paced, flexible environment with a diverse population. Must be able to work weekends and evenings.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • 21 years old or older
  • Previous Professional Experience: 6 months previous professional experience in medical/lab collection role.
  • License and/or Certification: Must be able to obtain certification in all modalities of Drug Testing: urine collection, sweat patch, and hair follicle testing within 30 days of employment.
  • Competencies or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s)
    • Ability to work with resistant, hostile, or angry clients and employ tools to de-escalate confrontational situations.
    • Understanding and experience in the child protection system and with Child and Family Services Divisions policies, laws, and practices.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail skills in reviewing and completing documentation as well as following universal precautions.
    • Must be able to directly observe urine collection and/or perform hair follicle testing.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Willingness and ability to obtain certification in First Aid/CPR and Violence Intervention Prevention.
    • Display regular, predictable, and reliable attendance at work
    • Have a working knowledge of working with families struggling with addiction.
    • Have a working knowledge of families with developmental delays.
  • Criminal / Child Abuse Clearance:Must pass criminal record and child abuse registry background check as required by the State of Montana.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • The Drug Screening Technician is responsible for the observation and collection of samples from clients.
  • Completing documentation timely and accurately for collections and as required shipping samples to the designated laboratory.
  • Be a professional representative of YBGR during Court testimony as may be required in some cases.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, including having difficult, yet constructive conversations.
  • Able to follow all chain of custody protocols as pertaining to each modality of testing and to secure signatures of donor before they leave the premises.
  • The Drug Screening Technician must maintain high confidentiality with testing results and only report to those authorized to have information on client and their results.
  • The Drug Screening Technician must report to law enforcement if a client is under the influence of drugs or alcohol and demands to drive after testing.
  • Contribute to the strategic goals and outcomes of the agency as measured by the development and achievement of individual, departmental, and organizational goals and outcomes. Participate in Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) goals of the organization both individually and as a team member.
  • Deal constructively and helpfully with all other members of the organization.
  • Fully support and model the mission and values of YBGR.
  • Adhere to all policies, systems, safety requirements, and procedures of the organization.
  • Take the initiative to identify problems and seek out solutions.
  • Be a professional representative of the organization to those outside it.
  • Participate and engage in monthly supervision/coaching meetings with the supervisor.
  • Be aware of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of persons served.
  • Participate in required training as appropriate to the position and beneficial to YBGR.
  • Other duties as assigned.
