The Make it Happen Site Coordinator is one of the positions under Portland Public Schools' Youth Development Program. Make It Happen is an academic support and college readiness program operated by the Multilingual and Multicultural Center at the High School level to help language minority students develop competitive academic profiles and secure college admission and financial aid. The Site Coordinator will become an integral part of school culture and work closely with staff, students, and volunteers.
This position is for 11 months per year.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee operation of academic support programming in the Make It Happen Academic Center
- Manage volunteer academic tutors and partners
- Recruit and engage target multilingual students and monitor integrity of support and communication
- Conduct academic profile meetings with students to monitor academic and civic proliferation
- Provide comprehensive and individualized support to seniors with college and financial aid application process
- Engage target students in standardized test prep, leadership, community service, and professional development activities
- Promote and advocate for the enrollment of target students in competitive classes
- Collaborate with internal and external partners in developing academic and civic profiles of students
- Collect data to produce summary mid-year and annual impact reports
- Monitor academic progress of all target students
- Establish and maintain communication with administration, teachers, guidance counselors, partners and parents regarding students
- Participate in department and staff meetings
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and relevant professional experience
- Superb interpersonal skills and accessible disposition

- Classroom management skills and the ability to create an ideal learning environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and executive skills
