The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is seeking an experienced senior-level fundraising professional to build the organization’s Major Gifts program and individual giving strategy. Reporting to and partnering with the Vice President of Development & Strategic Alliances and working closely with the President & CEO, members of the Executive and Leadership teams, the Major Gifts Officer will work with the growing Fundraising, Business Development and Strategic Communications team to effectively advance the work of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) and its Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI).

The MGO will be highly strategic, having the ability to set priorities decisively but collaboratively, delegate responsibilities, ensure accountability, and allocate resources to ensure results. This leader must have proven experience affecting change in a complex organization and a solid record of converting strategy into growing revenue CTFK/GHAI secures from individuals and meeting fundraising goals. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and energetic individual who functions well in a fast-paced team environment, which includes engaging colleagues and cross-department coordination. This essential leadership role will supervise one FTE, working in close collaboration with other key organizational leaders to build a vibrant and robust program, expanding and evolving to raise $2M annually within five years.


WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH:

•Create and implement a strategy for a Major Gifts program and donor pipeline in collaboration with the VP of Development, Executive and Leadership teams.

•Develop and implement Major Gifts donor strategies that include identification, cultivation, solicitation, and retention for a portfolio of both current and prospective donors.

• Analyze prospect research with a keen understanding of moving steward donors towards Major Gifts.

•Develop funding requests based on the goals of the organization for high net-worth individuals and play a lead role in soliciting and closing Major Gifts.

•Build and execute an overall individual giving strategy responsible for meeting annual revenue goals.

•Conduct research into current individual donors to determine opportunities for increased giving potential, as well as researching the donor potential among other constituencies.

•Develop a workable plan to build sustainable revenue through cultivation events and other opportunities to engage individual donors and build relationships.

•Work with program staff to align CTFK and GHAI fundraising with program priorities and include staff in development activities, as appropriate.

•Have the ability to independently lead communications, manage and effectively plan meetings, develop high quality materials, presentations, stewardship reports, major gift solicitations, proposals, and investment decks. Manage communication and donor interactions with program leadership.

•Utilize Raiser’s Edge to track and manage donor/prospect portfolio and monitor individual results toward fundraising goal; lead timely reporting of results to ensure accuracy of the fundraising pipeline and year-long projection forecasts.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

• Proven record and deep understanding of Major Gifts prospecting and stewardship.

• Careful attention to detail in donor correspondence.

• Reliable, responsive follow up and proactive outreach.

• Ability to visualize and implement the growth of the development department.

• Willingness to operate creatively and lead and support a fundraising infrastructure for Major Gifts and individual giving at a time of required innovation, rebuilding, and strengthening its current funding portfolio and growing diversified support at every level – from mid-level and Major Gifts to large philanthropic investments in support of core strategic priorities and programs more effectively.


SKILLS YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE:

• At least seven (7) to ten (10) years of successful individual giving experience in non-profit development, including fundraising for an advocacy organization.

• Already established personal and professional donor networks and fundraising partners capable of providing connections and building outreach.

• Knowledge of the principles of major donor pipeline management and a successful track record of moving donors into higher giving brackets.

• Experience developing tailored cultivation and stewardship plans that exhibit an exceptional understanding of others’ priorities, motivations, and interests.

•Competency in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor relations.

•Record of successfully engaging leadership in the fundraising process.

•Effective, professional relationship management skills with the ability to exercise good judgment when interacting with stakeholders, donors, and constituents.

•Excellent organizational skills, attention to details with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet frequent deadlines and be self-disciplined about work prioritization.

•Possess a collaborative work style and strong interpersonal skills to interact with staff, board members, and donors in a manner that shows understanding of the mission.

•Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

•Willing and able to travel, manage a portfolio of donors, execute funders meetings and lead funder discussions and close funder agreements.

•Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.

•Supervisory experience.

•Demonstrable commitment to the highest standard of ethical and professional.
