Job Description
Montgomery College has an immediate need for a full-time Major Gifts & Annual Giving Director in the office of Foundation and Development. The work schedule is 5 days/40 hours a week. This is a Non-Bargaining, Exempt, grade 31 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework up to two (2) days per week after successful completion of initial employment probationary period.
The Major Gifts & Annual Giving Director is responsible for leadership in designing Annual Giving strategy, implementing leadership Annual Giving, supervising one Annual Giving associate and raising $800,000 - $1 million per fiscal year in Annual Gifts - many gifts coming in from other development officers as well as direct mail and other efforts - (in addition to another $500,000 - $1 million from $25k+ Major Gifts. Annual goal may be adjusted due to extenuating circumstances such as the economy but will be established prior to the start of each FY by the VP for Advancement and Director of Development).
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Maintain a portfolio of up to 20 annual leadership gift prospects with capacity at $2,500+ [in addition to about 75 major gift prospects with gift capacity of $25k+.
  • Responsible for raising $500,00+ from annual leadership gifts and Major Gifts ($25k+) through a professional, strategic cultivation and solicitation process
  • Plan and implement 5-10 personal visits per month to donors for purposes of discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship with a focus on Major Gifts.
  • Write and submit 15 proposals or gift agreements per year for the College priorities
  • Steward major gift donors by drafting and reviewing acknowledgement documents
  • Communicate with donors on an ongoing basis via email, mail, phone, and face-to-face meetings
  • Invite donors / prospects to College events
  • Coordinate meetings and campus visits with College senior leadership and prepare occasional briefings
  • Steward and maintain relationships with higher-level named scholarship/fund contact persons, as assigned
  • Work with Advancement Research staff to identify new major gift prospects of $25,000+
  • Other duties as assigned

In addition to the below, strong communication, inter-personal skills, follow up, and organizational/meeting deadlines are key strengths.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in field related to business administration, marketing, communications, or non-profit management.
  • Five years of experience professional experience in development and/or fundraising to include cultivating donor solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Three years of experience in working with higher education institution or non-profit organizations.
  • Knowledge of IRS rules related to general fundraising.
  • Knowledge of the principles and best practices associated with fundraising in higher education
  • Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of the mission of higher education, Montgomery College's mission, local businesses, governmental agencies, community resources, and professional organizations related to assigned programs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of and adherence to fundraising ethics and Montgomery College Foundation Policies and Procedures.
  • Strong skill in marketing planned gift vehicles and opportunities
  • Strong skill in creating proposals for major gift prospects
  • Knowledge of gift vehicles (cash gifts, gifts of securities, bequests, charitable trusts, , retirement fund assets, life insurance, beneficiary designation gifts, and in-kind gifts).
  • Strong skill in using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., word processing, spreadsheet, database applications, etc.)
  • Ability to develop and sustain productive and effective relationships with donors, faculty, colleagues, and senior management.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Salary Range: $76,679 - $99,671 annually. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity. Please include a complete resume/application including all relevant or related experience
