Print KING CITY UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT GROUNDSKEEPER Job Description: Under the supervision of the Business Manager and the Director or Supervisor of Maintenance and Operations, the Groundskeeper is responsible for the district's landscaping, grounds, irrigation, fertilization, aeration, spraying, and related functions. (12 month position) Distinguishing Characteristics: This position will be assigned repetitive groundskeeping tasks to be completed on a routine basis. Tasks will also be assigned on a periodic basis with specific guidelines and deadlines. Tasks will be of considerable importance and can result positively or negatively on district campuses and public image. Essential Functions (includes some or all of the following): Turf maintenance; mowing, edging, aerating, fertilizing, watering, filling of holes/lowspots. Plant, cultivate, fertilize, water, and trim; ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees, and groundcover. Mix and apply regulated substances for weed control, gopher control, fertilization etc. (requires license) Irrigation; installation and maintenance of watering systems (turf, drip, and etc.) Use and maintain the lawn tractors and implements, mowers, rototillers, edgers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, augers, power trimmers, vacuums, and blowers. Drive and operate a truck, dumptruck, tractor, loader, riding mower, district grounds vehicle. Inspect playgrounds and make minor repairs, and make recommendations on safety concerns. General clean up (weeds, cuttings, trash, debris, leaves, etc.) of school campuses (planters, asphalt, sandboxes, sidewalk, etc.) Work well with school staff, keeping their issues in mind such as noise and student safety. Keep work and schedule records, make simple reports, and prioritize work requests. Other related grounds, campus, and facility duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Incorporated within one or more of the essential functions of this position are the following essential physical requirements; 1) the ability to see and understand speech at normal levels for purposes of mowing and operating equipment around staff and students 2) the ability to read and comprehend for the purposes of reading directions and warnings 3) the ability to operate power equipment with dexterity, 4) the ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Must be able to work well on your own with limited direction, while recognizing needed actions and completing them. This position will be subject to operation of many types of power equipment and must be physically capable of bending, pulling, pushing, shoveling, raking, kneeling, reaching overhead and in all directions, climbing ladders and lifting. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from High School, a current, valid California drivers license, a pesticide applicators' license, QAC or above, (or ability to get one within 6 months), and prior landscaping or groundskeeping experience. MAINTENANCE (Buildings and Grounds) General Description: Performs a variety of repair and construction jobs on district buildings and grounds. Has knowledge of construction, single and 3 phrase electrical wiring, plumbing, and general carpentry. Reports to and takes direction from Business manager and/or director of maintenance. Responsible to Business manager. Essential Duties: Performs major and minor construction and repair assignments. Lifts and carries materials in excess of 50 lbs required for various types of construction and repair projects. Inspects and works on buildings, including roofs, foundations, boilers, HVAC systems, electrical systems, communication and alarm systems, and plumbing systems. Must be able to climb or crawl to required areas. Operates equipment and handles supplies required for construction and repair projects. Directs other employees assisting with projects. Drive and operate a truck, dumptruck, tractor, loader, riding mower, district grounds vehicle. Holds or is able to obtain valid drivers license. Other Duties: Paints, glazes, installs alarm and telephone lines, wires for electrical outlets and lighting. Assembles and repairs furniture and equipment, performs heavy manual labor, cleans work area at completion of projects. Maintains and provides routine service of boilers, pumps, irrigation systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, lighting and alarm systems, clocks, etc. Repairs locks, doors, hydraulic door closers, lockers, etc. Keeps records as required.
