Under direct supervision, the janitorial person will provide specialized janitorial services and light maintenance work for the agency’s main administrative facility. The position ensures that the facility is cleaned/sanitized throughout the workday and ensures that the facility and its grounds remain hazard free. Will further ensure that the facility maintains compliance with applicable building and funder regulatory requirements. Should be skilled in specific tasks, as defined below under Duties and Responsibilities
Position Summary:
- Makes use janitorial equipment and supplies to maintain the cleanliness of the facility (waxing/buffing, mops, vacuum cleaners, brooms, power washers, etc.
- Knowledge of cleaning/sanitizing products, including green products.
- Cleans and sanitizes all restrooms, classrooms, common areas, and offices throughout the workday, including vents, windows, windowsills, etc.
- Initiative and judgment to identify and correct discrepancies and problems as they occur.
- General knowledge of building trades (painting, sheetrock, plastering, etc.) to undertake small repairs in these areas under direct supervision.
- Familiarity with proper operation of electrical equipment and hand tools sufficient to carry out job tasks listed.
- Sufficient academic and communication skills to undertake training and certification for various certificates of fitness courses, i.e. FDNY S-95, F-07.
- Will be required to work effectively around people of varying backgrounds, as well as young children, adolescents, and the community at large.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times.

- Maintains and repairs buildings interiors, exteriors, and grounds, ensuring hazard prevention and compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
- Demonstrates solid skills in the following: Janitorial/Custodial tasks, i.e. Cleaning, mopping, sanitizing, vacuuming, trash removal. Light carpentry repairs and improvements i.e. painting, unclogging drains, stopping minor leaks, electrical (installing ballasts, light fixtures), Install/repair locks.
- Works off of an automated work order system, from which tasks are assigned by supervisor.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; recommends orders for supplies for supervisor approval.
- Conducts checks of facilities, both interior and exterior on a daily
- Performs snow removal & salting, when necessary.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years of similar experience
- NYS Driver’s License ,preferred
